Shun's aren't as bad as people meme them to be, but you can find better knives for the money.

What's a man crate and why do you own six bubblegummachines?

>> No.11687447

>>11687425
A man crate is an overpriced gift box, in my case a chef knife finishing kit. Comes with a vise, files, sand paper, the handle material, and a finished Damascus knife blank.
I don't have 6 candy machines,.i have 5 candy machines with 2 tops each. I work estate sales and purchased 5 double top candy machines and they now sit in my kitchen...

It's a Chinese cleaver. It's pretty good for most things once you're used to it feeling different than a chef's knife.
For something like finely chopping garlic or deboning a chicken etc. I still prefer something smaller and more flexible, though.

I have two cleavers and while I like them both I generally prefer pic related. It was a pretty cheap one from eBay that I had to put a proper edge on myself, but holds it nicely once it's done.

Got this 24 inch cutting board for Christmas.

3/4 inch edge grain bamboo. Wood would need be thick as hell and weigh a ton too, because it has lousy dimensional stability relative to bamboo. Mostly though I'm cheap.

Bamboo are great. Although you need to be careful. never soak in overly warm water, and keep it well oiled regularly.
I made some dough on my once and it was covered in dried on dough by mid day, GF went to do dishes left it soaking in hot water, and then let it air dry, thing got all distorted and shit because of how the grain runs all horizontally.

Had to give it a good soak again and put a few cast iron cookware on it.

>shun's aren't as bad as people meme them to be, but you can find better knives for the money
I got my Global G2 around a decade ago and after doing a bunch of research it was between that, a Shun, or a MAC. Almost no stores carry MAC so I wasn't able to actually try one, and the Global just felt much better in my hand. Most people I know who bought a Shun regretted it, and though Global gets a lot of shit online most people who have used mine were really impressed.
