Yuengling Lager in cans: Personal favorite all-round beer.

Columbus IPA: Good during summer months, nice crisp taste to break up monotony from the rest of the swill that I'm about to mention.

Bud Light: For doing dumbass things like shotgunning and long-sustained drinking where heavier beers could impede.

Cobra 40 oz: Malt liquor is in the category of beer, and there's nothing like that boozy corn taste from a gratuitously large bottle, nestled in the koozie that my beer-bro gifted to me before he moved.

Guinness Extra Stout: I'd pick Draught if I didn't live in Burgerland, but it come's out too watery here. Hearty drink for winter, particularly with a rare-grilled burger, at a degenerate poser-heritage street festival or after giving blood. Guaranteed to replenish iron and bestow black bowel movements.

Modelo - Something to drink at Latin-themed parties and cinco de mayo. Doesn't taste as bad as Corona. Fuck that annoying foil on the bottles though.

Oh, my post was in reference to the Guinness one, not Sam Adams.

Sam Adams is in a different position where they are small enough that they have few of the marketing and distribution advantages of the big guys, but big enough that most people into craft beer consider them a big brewer. Meanwhile most of their beers were designed in a craft beer market that was much different than today so they are facing a really tough market. They basically have no choice but to start making hype beer styles, specifically making reasonable priced and accessible versions of them that they can sell across the country with little barrier to buy even if they aren't particularly good at the style.

I'm not necessarily a fanatic about BBA beer but the majority of bba beers that work and all of the ones that built up a following in the initial trend (goose island bourbon county, KBS, firestone walker bba series) are stouts or barleywines.

most of the fancy hooch thing is just "thing going into other barrels", i.e. 21 year whiskey that spends time in casks that formerly held other liquors or fortified wine

I could see it working on something a little less balanced than what I've had. The flavour itself isn't bad, it just didn't work with the beers... like I said, it either needed sweetness in the beer itself, or a bitterness to swing it back the other way and balance it out. In an already balanced ale/porter/stout it seemed like an orphaned aftertaste.

A good, over-hot barleywine would work well with it though. Something with enough esters and alcohol to play off of the oak, and the esters, alcohols, etc. left behind from the bourbon.

I was thinking just more for the bitterness... even (actually especially) a slightly overbitter ESB would work, in my opinion... mind you, I could just be really receptive to whatever aldehyde, ketone, or ester it is that I pick up off of (especially) bourbon aged beers. It's definitely less noticable in the Merlot-barrel porter at my friend's brewery, and even the rum-aged-white stout he tried (too much rum and white, not enough stout).

Whatever the flavour is, it turned me off of Innis&Gunn for a while. I thought that was just how their beers tasted.

I honestly and unironically like the special and quite unique flavour of roasted malt that Guinness got -at least I don't find the exact same profile in most stouts. But it's honestly a bit too subtle in Draught even though I can't hate on that beer for nostalgic reasons.. Extra stout is better - same taste but more expressed. The thing you fucking mouth breathing pedophiles seem to forget is that their were hundreds of years of ipas not made with modern meme hops that taste like a fucking 5 gum add for pinesol and lemon. The beer style was literally designed for travel and age. While yes, oxidization hurts some of the fruity/herbal flavors they dont drop to zero. Since ba ipas tend to be at least imperial in strength and trend towards the big end of double it should be pretty easy for you retards to think of them as a more hop balanced barley wine. Midwestern ipas with their bigger malt bills seem to be more popular for this for the similarities.

Good example of the style are devastation, lake effect ba and the meme from founders, Doom.

I'm hoping you one dimensional basic bitches will branch out a bit and learn something about beer before you embarrass yourselves further.

It was the first beer I drank often. I would go to dim sum with my in laws and my father in law wanted a "son" he could drink with because none of the 3 of us drank. I wanted to impress him so I would get a Tsing Tao with him when we ate. It gave me a taste for beer and have since branched out but I still get Tsing Tao from occasionally.

those weren't *real* IPAs because American hop varietals used for beer did not exist back then. Those were just heavily hopped bitters. At the time the "style" was just a synonym for English bitters but for the past fifty years it has meant "American pale ale with tons of American hops for both bittering and aroma" because they nicked the name to make a cool historical reference. That whole "hopping preserved the beer" thing is probably a myth that came from ad copy anyway.

Anyway my point is that bourbon barrel aged pale ales don't taste good and I don't know what you're talking about

I'd honestly be content with just Budweiser for the rest of my life. Despite my love of good beer, it can all tend to get cloying after a while. I never tire of Bud because of how inoffensive and accessible it is. Not a whole lot of flavor, if any, but it's still refreshing and highly drinkable. The only drink I care to binge if I want to get good and drunk.

Yuengling is pretty solid too, but only out of a can. Fuck that green bottle shit.

The beer wasn't designed to age. The beer was designed to not go bad on during it's travel. There's a difference. Besides, I'd much rather just drink barley wine than an IPA that has degraded so much that you think that it should be thought of as a barley wine.

You're basically just defending fucked up beer and saying "nuh uh, this beer is supposed to be shitty so you should appreciate it all it's shitty glory."

Founders also had that barrel aged imperial red ipa that was pretty memey and not very good. Not only was that beer trying to do too many things, but it's like barrel aged ipas just can't figure out what they want to be. Honestly, 99% of them just suck. And it's okay to say they suck. If you want brewers to make them or make better ones, then tell them they suck. Don't just defend the entire thing because you've enjoyed one in particular.

True, I've drank a lot of different beers and suddenly just stopped. I've grown accustomed to Yuengling because I got some on the way back from a road trip to Maine and they don't sell it in Texas yet. Missed it from my early 20's and time on the East Coast.

I'm in too deep to stop. Once you're brewing it in your closet for the added flavor and cost savings, you're done.

I've heard Texas has some good shit, even if you don't drink much, it's worth stocking up on some samplers and playing roulette with a chaser of your usual. I found some good beers that way when I was working my way around the world. Also some vile shit that gave me new words for flavors I don't like.

I'm at the point where the only beer I buy is within a 100 mile radius and most of it is an hour away. Once you have drank from the spring (in this case a carboy in your closet), fresh and local take on a new meaning.
