There was a place I'd hit up on my way home from school that did this. For $3.50 you could get a standard dog, but for $6-7 they'd give you a proper sausage (brat, chicken apple, chicken and wine, etc) on a sourdough roll with lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard, all that good stuff. Otherwise, $2 tuesdays. Glad I got my fill before graduating.

They closed down like 6mo after I left. Thankfully, chicago has a ton of late night greasy spoons that serve loaded dogs with reasonable sanitation, but it's just not the same
