Making some hard cider this year.

>> No.11365218

Do the even sell fresh pressed apple cider anymore at places like a farmers market? seems like everything I see now is pasteurized even though I can buy fresh orange juice straight out of the squeeze machine at the store.

>> No.11365243

Nope. Acid reflux and cider do not mix. My stomach will have me bent over in pain for hours. I'll stick to my great lakes seasonal beers

no, I will not be having cider again this fall but I don't prescribe my dietary restrictions for others since I have no bona fides in nutrition

Make your own, it costs like $6 a gallon and tastes pretty good.

1 gallon of preservative-free apple cider, 1 cup brown sugar, some D-47 yeast, and 1/4 tsp fermaid 0 (optional) - let sit for 2 weeks and age it for however long you want. Just google around for proper homebrewing techniques and full instructions, it's dead easy though with a little investment.

I remember when I tried making my own cider like that. Only I ended up making foul vinegar poison. Granted, I didn't sterilize the bottle in any way and used a shitload of granulated baking yeast along with some sugar. Also, I would randomly pour it out into a pot and put some more sugar in it to restart the fermantation, then siphon it back into the bottle. Sometimes I fashioned some half-assed way to keep oxygen out, either with some putty, rubber tubing and a jar of water, or with a finger cut off from a rubber glove and stretched over the mouth of the bottle, with some holes pricked at the top. I kept the bottle with me at all times in a little compartment on the side of my PC desk, along with the cum rags.

It was a tough time for me all around, but I'm glad it's over, more or less.

No, too much sugar. I am an alcohol and can't drink in moderation, so the sugar usually gives me a sore throat and leaves me feeling worse than drinking hard alcohol or beer.

I looked it up when I first got into Maangchi, and it turns out it's cheap garbage. No shame in admitting that you bought a knife because your favorite YouTube "celebrity" uses it. I bought a few things from Alton's short lived online store a decade ago.

Because there is actually a clear distinction between hard cider, apple cider, and apple juice in the United States. Apple cider is typically far less watery and far more flavorful than apple juice, and hard cider is the term for the alcoholic stuff.
