My wife refuses to even use whisks in the first place.

This thread was inspired by my searching through pages of whisks and whisk-adjacent products in search of a reasonably priced small size latex-covered whisk, because I ripped the latex off my old by accident and I use them for mixing flour into gravy in my little non-stick saucepan

Toasters are way more effective than ovens at toasting bread.
I prefer a long one like pic related because it can take more bread sizes instead of just supermarket square bread.
The babel warmer on top though is a useless thing, I've used that about twice ever, for hamburger buns. Pans are better for that.

Toasters in general though are useful, why heat an entire oven to do one side of some toast? And broilers are quick as well but you're still doing once side at a time when you want to make breakfast quickly and if you aren't watching them then you burn your toast. I'm pretty distracted at breakfast time, making coffee, toast and eggs simultaneously while talking with people and thinking about work.

>We’ve opened up the loops which allows us to get longer and thicker legs, giving more surface area without losing any flexibility. And more surface area means >faster whisking and mixing. The thicker legs also allow us to place holes at the end of each leg to help introduce air into mixtures. On a practical level the elongated >shape is easier to get into the corners of bowls or pans and the final bonus - it’s easier to clean.

>So now you can whip up double cream in double time.

That's actually kind of cool. The only problem is that you'd have to wash and dry it between a lot of ingredients.

i.e. when I make bread I use 1tbls oil, 1/2tbls yeast, 1tsp salt, 1tsp suger.
The oil has to be measured first so it will make everything else stick which means I can't put the spoon into a jar to get stuff.
Cake and muffin recipes have similar requirements except more wet ingredients so it happens several times.

Using separate spoons helps keep my ingredient jars uncontaminated, I just measure each one and toss the spoon and get the next measurement.

>I don't think this is useless, but ridiculously expensive
It's both.

Tortillas are a small amount of work I guess but this can only make one size and it's pretty small at that. Anybody who eats so many tortillas that they need a machine on their bench for it, can probably just make them.

Can you buy tortilla dough in the USA like cookie dough? I'm sure you could in places like California. Then you could replace that machine with a tortilla press and just put in pieces of dough sliced off a roll that you keep in the fridge wrapped in plastic or something.

There's a business model, subscription tortilla dough. You join the business, get sold a tortilla press and then someone delivers you a log of tortilla dough every week that goes in the fridge. You slice off a chunk and press a tortilla in seconds and throw it in a pan.

It could be way better than those pod ones and you can have them however you like.

There is.

It's really just a variant on an icing piping bag.
You could make one out of any little plastic bottle and a fine-sized piping cone, just cut a hole in the bottle cap and put the cone through it, then squeeze the bottle to write.

It will take a little practice but not much. You just need to learn to use suction or gravity to pull the spice back from the tip when you "pen up".

I hadn't thought about electric, automatic tortilla presses it but that makes sense. I was talking about an old-fashioned manual press before, which is all a home-cook would need.

If I ate enough tortillas, I'd make a batch of dough and keep it in the fridge. Maybe make daily portions and freeze them, take one out each night and use it in the morning or something.

Aside from being an expensive way to drink juice, someone pointed out that the machine is actually fairly pointless, you can just crush the bag by itself and get the juice out, you don't even need the machine. It's also an insane amount of plastic waste for a glass of juice which is kind of big deal since the target market is more or less San Fran hipsters who want their wheatgrass juice in the morning before they jump on their bike and ride to Silicon Valley for work.

Those aren't for toast, they're for tea bags.

I use them, they're not completely useless. You provide them on a saucer with the tea and people can leave the tea bag in until it's steeped to their preference and then use the tongs to remove, squeeze (if desired) and discard it.

Chinese sometimes use them to avoid getting your fingers on people's tea cups and washing cups in boiling water before serving, a Chinese tea set has a bunch of different single-use tools for doing tea stuff. There's tongs for picking up the pressed ball of tea, a spike for breaking it up (or breaking off a portion from a brick), scoops for loose leaves and the wet tongs are also for picking leaves out of cups if they drop in and for washing the tea cup in boiling water without using hands etc.

In the English tradition, they're a unitasker so are a waste of space but I keep one on my desk for tea bags because I hate getting my fingers dirty or wet and I'd have to clean tea of them if I squeezed a bag with them. You can also use a spoon and wrap the string around it but I don't use sugar in my tea so no need for a spoon anyway.

The strings come off sometimes but fancy teas these days are often in bags without strings, it's a thing. They wanted stuff that could be glued together and not split etc, stuff like that. A lot of these fancy design products fail when they meet the real world, in /n/ we see 'spokeless bicycles' about once a week and they're always pure fiction by some designer who thinks they've literally reinvented the wheel because they don't understand the real reason why something is the way it is.
In this case, it's a genuinely cool idea but it's not a complete design until it includes the engineering specifications to actually make it.

No, they're in the ballpark which is good enough for many recipes but definitely not all.

They're not standardised sizes, they're whatever size the producer wants them to be. Measuring spoons are standardised to exact sizes (or they're supposed to be).

If the knives were any good and I was setting up a new house and money was no object, I might splash out and get a set with one (or two) of everything.
I doubt I'd regret having a fuck load of knives of every type.

It's just not worth the money and I already have more or less everything I could want in the way of knives.
Also, I don't dislike blocks but I really like magnetic knife holders on the wall, they're comfy and convenient. I installed some in two kitchens I've lived in and they're fantastic, I really love them.
Just be sure to get one with two rows of screws, so it doesn't rock vertically.

Yeah, I get that. Dropping controlled droplets is sort of useful though. Not $100 useful, I'm sure I can get a way cheaper Chinese knock-off but useful none-the-less. It's likely only $100 because of the target market and the relatively small market.
It's not like you'll sell a million of these things. Well, if you paid Master Chef to feature it in a show I guess, that would probably cost $1mil anyway, or they'd only do it with a commission on all your sales or something.
