I guess it's because the internet is a shithole. But on a different note, I want to take a moment to bitch about how at this point IPAs are so popular that the entire fucking craft beer section of every grocery store I visit is now is basically all IPAs. I can't get a good stout or porter without going to the liquor store. And to be honest, I've been drinking IPAs for something like 12 or 13 years and I'm kinda sick of them. Stop oversaturating the market goddamnit.

Because they're fake people and IPAs are the fakest beer possible. There is actually no such thing as IPA. The last one was brewed probably a century and a half ago, maybe more. An IPA was a pale ale that was brewed in India and cask-conditioned aboard BEIC sailing vessels headed to London, a fairly specific set of conditions which are obviously no longer met.

And then if you were to ask them more generally what makes a pale ale pale, they wouldn't be able to tell you it's simply an ale made with pale malt, which is itself very lightly roasted (malted) barley.

IPA drinkers are the biggest fags in beer. I love beer and I love brewing it and drinking it, but beer phonies fucking ruin the whole enterprise to the point where I honestly pretend I have a hops allergy so I don't have to talk to those fucking faggots. Wine snobs are scum, too, but they at least understand their drink. Beer fakes and especially IPA queers don't know shit about anything.

>An IPA was a pale ale that was brewed in India and cask-conditioned aboard BEIC sailing vessels headed to London
It was generally the reverse - brewed in the UK, for shipping to India. The style became somewhat popular and they sold to the domestic market too.
I like a few IPAs here, but they are generally quite subtle. Whenever someone recommends me an American brewed IPA it's almost guaranteed to be an overhopped monstrosity.

this is the real deal.
IPAs can get away with all kinds of flaws in their brewing process by just dumping hops into the beer and covering up their mistakes with a billion IBUs and a trendy looking label that hipsters can masturbate over.

You can't get away with that shit in a lager or a pilsner. It has to be brewed with skill.

>> No.11271903

>>11271151
This is basically it. Soyboys/hipsters love the thought that they are delving into the "authentic" past and exploring the rugged experiences of bygone days. It's a funny way to characterize the practice of drinking overhopped beer, but they seem to get away with it.

Sometimes they'll say that a good IPA has properly balanced flavor and doesn't simply have that overhopped taste. Look more carefully at what they're talking about, and it turns out those beers are just regular pale ales, which have always been on the shelves, with an "I" tossed in front for marketability.

That's the basic essence of your hipster/soyboy. Affectation sold as authenticity.

>> No.11271958

>>11271903
well to be fair there isn’t really any quantifiable difference that suddenly makes it an IPA instead of a pale ale. you’re kind of at the mercy of what the brewery decides to call it like you said.

I think two hearted is a great balance of malt/hops if I’m looking for something hoppy. when I brew it I use 3oz in the boil and a 3.5oz dryhop for a 5gal batch, which isn’t anything excessive imo. these breweries that are triple dry hopping shit literally taste like you’re just eating raw hops, and it burns like it too. not to mention hops are fucking expensive so some of these beers are $16/4-pack.
