Not OP, but I grew up poverty and fresh chips from a cheap corner fish and chips store were a treat.
We got cheap ass, but super fresh bread and that, butter, tomato sauce and the chips seasoned well was top tier shit.
We were super poverty though, so I guess that sounds terrible for most of you.

I sometimes make a fish and chip club - top layer of bread is battered fish/fishcake/fish goujon/battered sausage sliced lengthwise, with the bottom layer of bread being chips coated in a mixture of mushy pea and curry sauce.
