i tried cooking two in one cast iron pan, one for my brother. The sear was pretty shit so i let it on a bit more and so it was overdone a bit.

Next time 1 by 1

just make the pan hotter next time, cooking steaks is pretty much down to a science now, there is nothing to it

Hotter pan is the way to go. If it's cast iron and you left some oil residue on it, let the pan heat on high until it begins to visibly smoke.

pan was on my biggest flame burner and it was smoking before i put it in, just too much of a temp drop maybe with two steaks at a time.

Also before i flipped i removed both and gave it a bit of time to reheat

You can cut the heat some once the meat is in the pan, and I would say do only one steak at a time in the pan. That way half the pan is always empty and re-heating. It should only take about 2 minutes tops to fully sear the two main faces of a steak.

And that's per side, 4 minutes total.
