I just bought this knife, what do you all think, is it real damascus?

Another Chink knife that claimed to be 70 HRC turned out to be 56 HRC when tested, which is about as hard as most German knives

I've got a similar one. Same blade, different brand and only the handle has a somewhat different shape. It's a nice knife. Got it for $60.

>real damascus
Don't even know what that is. Afaik the "real" damascus methods are lost in time.

I make knives. If it is real, it is machine worked damascus and not hand forged. Hardening comes in the temper, and can vary wildly even if you are a pro at it.

I think by "fake" he means steel knives which have a pattern painted on, etched with a laser engraver, or otherwise decetifully produced, whereas "real" would simply be pattern-welded steel.

>> No.11057517

Probably machined damscus that's been acid etched to stand out more, or just etched on there all together. Wont matter either way for a kitchen knife

>> No.11057551

No, it's probably a much better set of alloys that's been pattern welded and heat treated. I doubt anything is ever going to be "authentic" damascus steel for the rest of time, but modern steel is also probably significantly better in quality.

sure... why not

If you didn't buy it from Syria then it isn't real Damascus.

If by "damascus" you mean "pattern welded" then yes, that's not exactly something you can fake.

If by "damascus" you mean the legendary "super-steel" from Damascus, then no. Real Damascus stopped being made in like 1700.

No, that’s Mogadishu
