Why doesn’t the government do more to combat obesity?

Two options -
1.) the government tries to fix fat people
2.) the government leaves fatties to their own devices
which will get rid of fat people faster?

>which will get rid of fatties faster

Mass extermination. But that will take too long to get underway. For now, though, we can begin by outlawing soda and sugar.

>> No.11056651

>>11056621
Fat people shift the marginal private costs to society. The private benefits are greater than those of the society. Obesity creates negative consumption externality.

>>11056638
Push the costs of the society onto the individual. Alcoholics are not eligible for liver transplants, obese people can fuck off altogether from healthcare.

The government tried the same thing with black people. Dismal results.

Because "government" is little more than a magnet for the corrupt and sociopathic, eventually, it becomes filled with a majority of people that don't give a shit about anything but themselves and the party.

Our "government" is little more than a corrupt small town government that cares more about the (((money))) it can make from people like the corn industry for ignoring the obesity their shitty products help cause.

"Government" may start out with good intentions and decent people, but it's just a matter of time before all the decent folks are driven out, and that happened in the U.S. in 33' when that piece of trash FDR sold us out to (((banker))) scum by dropping the gold standard.

bad food is big business.
virtually all restaurant and snack food is unhealthy.

>> No.11056752

It's hard to protect stupid and lazy people from themselves. Especially since nothing about any food is harmful on it's own. However, I think parents of obese children should be charged with child abuse.

HFCS is in almost everything you buy. It's not just snack and junk food Anon. Stop the government subsidization of corn and watch HFCS drop out of favor as a food additive.

>> No.11056820

In yurop anyway it's much more of a debated topic. Fat people, druggies and criminals/incarcerated people are massive strains on the public budget so it'a natural they want to get rid of it. More individualistic countries don't have the same issue.

>Why doesn’t the government do more to combat obesity?

They do.

They just tried to pass a massive soda tax here in Atlanta but it was quickly turned into a race issue and the bill deemed "racist" since most of our soda consumers are black.

It's in nothing that I buy. See pic related. This is what food looks like. If it has an ingredient list then you shouldn't be buying it.

>>Stop the government subsidization of corn and watch HFCS drop out of favor as a food additive.
the subsidies are far less significant than other legal matters, specifically the import duties and quotas on sugar that were passed during the late 1970's. The subsidies have existed far longer than that and back then Americans still used sugar instead of HFCS. The import duties on foreign sugar were the real determining factor.

no, because the best way the Government could fight obesity would be to severely alter one of it's already existing programs that directly contribute to it, namely food stamps

immediately ban the from being used for Soda, Juice, Candy, snack food(cookies, chips, etc), possibly the frozen isle as well, make people on them buy from the produce, dairy and meat isles, the obesity trend increases on the lower end of the social scale because they tend to eat shit
