Remind me why VEGANS think it’s ok to eat FRUITS again? Fruits are ALIVE with FEELINGS and they are BABIES and will grow into ADULTS if you just give them a chance instead of KILLING them like a CARNIST.

So much for ETHICAL CONSISTENCY!

Might as well use this bait thread for a question, it's bugging me quite a lot. Are there people stupid enough to believe this to the point where they won't eat meat AND plants? Do they exist? I feel like there are people like this out there. I also want to know wtf would they eat, synthetic food?

>> No.11040070

>>11040014
I know this is bait, but there are actual people who identify as fruitarian. The logic is that fruits are evolutionary structures on the plant that are meant to be consumed by design. As a matter of fact, many seeds require passage through a specific type of herbivore's entrails before it can germinate. In some cases, this is to ensure seed dispersal (birds for example), or that it gets a nice bed of nutritious fertilizer to give it a competitive edge (ungulates). The people going by this logic would draw the line at eating even seeds, which is retarded even by veganism standards. I'm sure some of the mentally ill people who abide by such a restrictive diet have other rituals, like insuring they cultivate the plant or something after

Us not eating fruit is as absurd as a bee not taking nectar from a nectary that only it can pollinate. Every economically important crop that exists today is more or less reliant on us for cultivation and proliferation. But however you argue it, fruits are MEANT to be eaten.

Theoretically, many nutrients and minerals are available from non-living or naturally deceased sources. You can live for weeks or even months off of nothing but salt and water.

But nobody is so stupid. For example, assuming you only ate plants that weren't "harmed" by you eating them, there would still be plenty of choices out there. Many plants are annuals, meaning they fucking die after blooming. Typically, they produce so many seeds that the majority will just simply rot into the ground anyway, and thus be consumed by something. Why would it be any more immoral to harvest the seeds that are just gonna be food for bacteria and worms, and not serve the organism that made them, and eat them myself? What about squeezing olives for the oil, and planting the pits? Is that immoral?

I'm a meat eater, but trying to reductio ad absurdum veganism won't work, because there are so many foods that you can't argue are immoral to eat. Maybe you could argue cultivating an olive grove is impacting the environment, but seeing as fuck all would be growing there otherwise, I think it's a fair trade.

Jains won't eat plants that have to be killed for consumption, that's the closest to what you're asking. I don't think anyone can survive on bacteria and yeast or anything like that yet.

>> No.11040128

>>11040112
Yeah, I was about to say this about Jains. Stuff like root vegetables and onions and garlic are all out because you must kill the plant to get them and they seriously won't even kill a plant to eat. They also won't kill insects and only cook during the day and cover all liquids to avoid accidentally killing any, that's how deep the whole non-violence thing is to them.

>> No.11040147

>>11040128
I don't know how that works exactly because you can harvest a potato or garlic or an onion and cut off 90% of it but still use the last part of it to grow a new plant, so it's not really killing.

This. You can't apply animal morality to plants.

If you chop down a aspen tree, so what? There's hundreds of the same genetic individual, all connected. It is essentially like giving a human being a nasty papercut.

"Breatharians claim that food, and in some cases water, are not necessary for survival, and that humans can be sustained solely by prana, the vital life force in Hinduism. According to Ayurveda, sunlight is one of the main sources of prana, and some practitioners believe that it is possible for a person to survive on sunlight alone."

Jains are.Very strict Jains won't eat anything that causes the death of even a plant. So no root veg, for example, since pulling those up and eating the root kills the plant. They won't eat anything fermented, since those contain tons of tiny organisms. They even don't eat food that has been stored overnight, since these will contain more tiny organisms.

Imagine having to eat like that.

>but also no plants where harvesting it kills the plant

That makes no sense. Fruits are the MOST vegan thing. Plants just drop them for eating and seeding the soil. Vegetable are the actual plant's body.
