Most people react with puzzlement when you make a claim that seems unlikely to be true. Obviously different people have different tastes, but there are so many varieties of beer out there which taste radically different from one another, so it's a strange thing to hear.

It's like hearing someone claim they don't like "movies". It makes sense that they might not like certain movies or certain genres....but a claim that someone likes NONE of them? That sounds unlikely to be true.

I don't understand it either. I have noticed the same thing with weed. if you aren't a pot smoker then dope heads act like you have offended their god or something or like you just need convincing.

its vice exclusive. you'd never see equivalent disappointment from someone not liking the same cola or nacho toppings or whatever.

Eh I really dont like beer at all. Started with the standard bud lights and all and said I didnt like it, and everyone said oh try European beer and I did, still didnt like it, now everywhere I go people offer me this "best micro brew in the world" and I've tried a ton of them, they all taste the same to me and I dont like it. I'd rather have a glass of cider with my meal than a glass of beer.

lolno.
You hear it all the time with sports, music, movies, you name it
>>what do you mean you don't like harry potter

>> No.10923492

I feel like it applies to anybody who claims they dislike an entire category of something. "I dont like rock music", "I dont like playing sports", "I dont like beer.". From the other persons perspective who does like that particular thing, it probably seems like an unfair assessment to generalize and dislike an entire category of something they apparently have a limited understanding of. Chances are if they really took the time, they'd find some beer they actually enjoy, but instead choose to dismiss it entirely because they tried a pint of Coors or Lucky or something and assumed that was it.

I cant say i've seen anybody get pissy about it, but it does seem questionable.

I've heard the "you need to find the right beer" meme countless of times and ive tried the "best beer in the world" hundreds of times. It tastes like shit

Thats fine. That certainly doesn't mean that theres absolutely no beer out there that you'll enjoy. You just haven't crossed paths with the right one yet. I think "finding the right beer" is certainly true to an extent. Though if you've been told or recommended "the best beer in the world" you're probably hanging out with some memey beer snobs, and for the sake of avoiding the usual spiel its probably easier to just say that you dont like beer, lest they give you the usual "OHHHH but you havent tried THIS."

If anything you'd probably enjoy one of those huge microbrew offshoots that dont taste like beer at all. Or maybe Cider if you'd call that a beer. Perfectly fine.

They're usually people that don't know anything about beer and how it's made, and that's usually coupled with this deep consumer identity issue where they feel personally attacked if their consumption habits aren't observed by everyone they're in contact with.

I hated beer growing up, then really got into drinking it socially in Europe, developing a real and abiding love for the taste of it, so I learned how simple it is to make and have been making it ever since, and also sniping fake, faggoty beer snobs every chance I get.

Beer snobs are the nastiest, dumbest, most ignorant of all the lifestyle hobbyists. Worse than fucking cyclists. They don't know shit about anything and present all their fag opinions as being some kind of gospel:
>that's a fucking good beer (while not knowing how to make beer)
>that's watered-down piss (doesn't know what a lager is)
>i'd never drink that shit (lol no one cares fag)
>yeah this is 19% abv it costs $20 a 16-ounce bottle (though those two facts are related, the imbecile doesn't know why and the cost of a beer isn't necessarily a measure of its quality)

Really, if you don't like beer, you don't like beer, and no one should get anus-shattered about. If you like Miller, then you've found a good beer, even if I don't like it. Beer snob phonies are the worst thing that ever happened to beer and they've ruined beer culture, which should be just some guy showing his neighbor the Märzen he just brewed and has instead devolved into this shitshow of conspicuous consumption among nitwits who don't fucking know anything.

I have a pretty consistent cycle based on the growing season, how long I can store/lager stuff, and so one. I have my own hops vines (no idea what type) and grow almost everything else in my yard. I even malt the barley myself.

Mostly after harvest I start the Märzen first for spring, then do a Kölsch so I can lager it outside for summer, then do a Hefeweizen for the fall, and lastly something heavy for winter, generally an ale, usually a stout. As much as it pains fake-ass "beer purists", it's often a kind of "spiced" ale, never any actual pumpkin shit, but something that smacks of pumpkin pie or other fall desserts. It usually tastes more like a Glühwein but with beer and I serve it room temp.

nobody likes how it tastes at first, but we all get used to it, so grow the fuck up and fall in line

People who "don't like beer" have invariably only ever tried cheap macro brews. Every friend/acquaintance I know has eventually stumbled across something they enjoy. That's why "I don't like beer" usually comes from college age people. They've never had anything other than Coor's.
