I have been married to both a JAP and a Vietnamese.
I've eaten ramen and Pho many times, both home cooked and at restaurants in their respective countries.
Pho is great as a national dish. Cheap for the working man and has the calories to keep you going strong.
Ramen is great as a national dish for the same reasons.
In terms of taste and just plain old comfy however, ramen wins hands down for me. It is the more refined dish and there are a dozen versions of ramen that are all better than the very best Pho you can find.
