We need to encourage a culture of eating in moderation. Gluttony is the primary cause of obesity, not diet or lack of exercise. If you've lived in America long enough and dined with enough Americans, you'd know that they usually go in for seconds, overeat at restaurants, and snack all day long.

All of the added sugar sure as fuck doesn't help, either. I can't stand how pop is often the only drink served at fast-food restaurants. We need to do something about the availability of soft drinks, because that's where we get most of our added sugar. Like >>10853829 said, we need to tax it as much as we tax cigarettes. Coca-Cola is just as damaging to our nation's health as tobacco products, if not more so.

Get a campaign started to count yer goddam calories. 2300 a day X 7 X52 = Fatass

A lot of people are rocking -3000 to 4000 calories a day-. Not bodybuilders or athletes I mean. Just average office worker types. That's really fucking easy to do if somebody isn't paying attention.

Okay, let's say you go full retard and order that new sandwich from Burger King. That Pubhouse King cheeseburger. That bitch alone is Heart Attack Grill tier. It's 1500 calories for just the sandwich itself. But oh shit nigga, that's gonna come in a combo. 370 calories for the fries. 250 calories for the drink.

So one meal and you are already over 2000. But that's one meal, son. Then you grab a Monster drink a little later. Then after work you hit up Taco Bell for dinner. A Chalupa Cravings Box is about 1200 calories or so.

Then on your way home you pick up a Bud Light Lime-a-Rita to drink... Maybe you stop and get some ice cream. You get the idea.

Because eating like that is not sustainable long term. You know who eats like that all the time? Anorexics. Yet we call that a mental health disorder and diagnose it as a disease.

So let’s say you are doing 1200 kcal a day to get to your target weight. So you hit it and then you have to spend the rest of your life eating 1200 kcal a day? The recommended calorie consumption for adults is about 2000. So if you stick to 1200 you end up eating less than a child. Even if you start going to 1500 kcal you will begin gaining weight again.

That’s why it’s not considered a long term solution especially when your body is just gonna fight you, hard.

No, that shows you don't even understand what you're talking about. 1200 kcal is a deficit. It results in you losing weight. If you stayed on 1200 forever then you'd continually lose weight until you starved to death. You stick to your calorie restricted diet until you reach a healthy weight. Then you eat more-- But not so much that you gain weight again. I.e. you cut your calories until you're a normal weight, then you eat 2000. (or whatever roughly similar number is maintenance for you).

Your body is going to immediately start storing that and then you are going to end up eating more and more. You simply have to eat more than you would when you were losing weight, but not so much that you gain it back. You cannot fight physics no matter how hard you try. If your diet matches your manintenace level of caloric burn then you remain the same weight.

A way to what? A candy black market.
Bans don't get rid of anything. (i.e. war on drugs, prohibition). All they do is force the market from a legal one to an illegal, unregulated one. Black markets are far worse because they put money in the hands of criminals and they lack the safeguards of a legal open market (labeling laws, elimination of adulterants, etc.) Making sugar is child's play compared to making drugs. All a "candy ban" would do is make gangbangers rich selling doctored candy to kids and fatasses.

so going to gym isnt enough but restricting calories isnt the way to go?

guess ill just die then. people need to realize that life is a constant struggle. thats why the only way to endure it is to embrace it. most people in the western world are hopelessly addicted to sugar, mostly because their parents and/or governments have failed them. its like saying that not taking heroine isnt sustainable because your body just wants that heroine and youre going to go back to it. no shit, most people wont be able to make the lifestyle changes reauired to MAINTAIN their healthy weight once they get thsre because theyre perspective on food, anxiety. time, work, basically everything in life is completely fucked.

>it’s this easy

Obviously it’s not, because people keep failing and I really doubt it’s only because people want to eat so much. Even the one Biggest Loser contestant who managed to maintain her weight loss gained some of her weight back.

Blaming it solely on ‘lazy people’ is highly misguided and ignorant.

If you can't stop eating and have some kind of one-in-a-million cavernous hunger, then buy a huge bag of normandy blend vegetables at Costco and eat to your heart's content. I guarantee that you can't eat enough vegetables to stay fat. Hell, even toss 'em up with a strip of bacon and some chopped steak and you'll still lose weight like crazy.

The number one way to stop obesity is to teach people how awful overly processed, carb/sugar-laden food is. The 90's 'fat is bad' set us back about 5 steps in the fight against countrywide obesity.

the mistake is not realizing that it's mostly irrelevant.
any law of physics applies to a human being, including Maxwell's equations.
knowing those equations doesn't help though you figure out how to build muscle.

in the case of weight loss, many people are getting something called metabolic syndrome.
it's something that mainly has to do with hormones, hunger, satiety, blood sugar, and metabolism.
calories in isn't something that's easily fixed. it's highly dependent on hunger and satiety.
calories out isn't fixed either. it depends on vitality (how energetic you feel), metabolism, and NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis).

I can’t speak for other countries, but I know in the US the government literally told people to eat a ton of carbs and then after that everyone gained a bunch of weight. That’s not a coincidence. Also they tell you to eat breakfast and when you do eat a ton of sugary shit. Then you have to eat a snack and they serve snacks in school.

Also, companies literally pay researchers to tell them that their product is good, example chocolate companies. Companies fight to get their products in schools. Companies know that sugar is addictive hence why they put so much in their foods. They have to keep you buying their products or they won’t make money.

Yes, weight loss is hard work, but like unfortunately your example isn’t all that off, because addicts can go back. Addicts always have to be on their toes otherwise there is a possibility that they can go back to the way they were before. I didn’t say that it was easy, but there are just better solutions than just calorie counting and going to the gym.

I'm just wondering why you keep blaming other people for your own decisions.

I walk past vending machines, gas stations, and various hawkers on a daily basis. Online I am bombarded with ads for this that and the other. I never buy any of it. Just because "they" push it on you doesn't mean that YOU have to take it.

You can try to pin the blame on someone else if you want to but ultimately at the end it's always a personal choice whether to light that cigarette, pound that Monster, or face-cram that burger. You don't need "Them" to stop putting candy in the checkout isle, you simply choose not to buy it.

Some veggies have a ton of carbs which turns into sugar, too.

i don't buy it either. my bmi is actually on the skinny side and it has been all of my life. i also smoke cigarettes though, so whatever.
it just breaks my heart to see kids who can barely walk because they're so god damn fat and then hear assholes like you blaming them for it.
