Fixed costs of running a restaurant have gone up. This has led to a trend where formerly cheap foods are now moderately priced, and often dressed up a bit to justify the higher prices. This has been the trend for about 15 years now. All of our food purchases are made through McLane, the only exception being the multiple beer distributors we deal with both chain and local breweries. Typical response from someone who doesn't know the grand scheme of things, we've seen nearly $35,000 in repairs in the last few periods, due to things such as our walk in cooler unit failing and needing a full replacement ($11,000 bill), hot water tank failing, oven repairs and maintenance as it's an old legacy unit, replacement make table, fryer repairs, HVAC repairs, etc.

>>10755691
We're owned by a company who owns hundreds of locations in the state, there's a 10 year contract on our locations lease which is actually up at the end of the year, the plan is to move the store to a lower cost unit (currently paying 5 figures a month). We were one of the lowest performing stores, part of this due to our high rent costs, until the current store manager took over, our efforts have turned the store around dramatically both in service and quality but also outright profitability and outperforming other stores in things such as speed of service and labor/food cost control.

>>10757395
Cici's is also garbage, we receive product twice a week, our small order mid week is $600-900, our large weekend order is $2800-3900 depending on what current promotions are running. We typically have 340-760lbs of cheese on hand at any given time alone.

It is expensive because you went to a chain. That is obviously Dominos. They cut corners and hike the prices. They don't even serve real pizza. Go to a pizzeria. The pizza is cheaper, the quantities greater because 14" is not a large, and the quality is better because you are getting a real pizza not whatever Dominos is calling pizza today.

Pizza was original food of the poor. One could afford bread some tomatoes en cheese en throw in everything on it that they could find. Also, just making simple pizza yourself is quite cheap. I used to be a manager for a Domino's store in Orlando, Florida.
While the dough is at least never frozen and they're really fussy over it, a single dough patty costs about 12 cents. On a large hand tossed pizza, each topping you add to it is only about 5 cents average. A large pizza should _should_ cost less than a dollar then, right? But then corporate has to pay distributors. Their employees. They have to pay to keep the stores open all over the god damn place. They have to pay for advertising.
Now I don't jack shit about economics, but even with knowing all that, how many thousands of dollars my store would make in a day and how much of that actually goes to the store and it's employees, the pizzas are still overpriced.
But people buy them anyway, every single day. Your average Domino's store will make easilly a couple thousand dollars an evening.
My best advice is to always use coupons or ask for the special deals they rotate in and out every couple weeks. The "manager's special" as it is. Don't order specialty pizzas, just get a standard large 3 topping and add onto it if you really want more than 3 toppings. Its cheaper if you just "build" your own specialty pizza. You can get, for example, a vegetarian for 9 bucks instead of 12.

Or, instead of paying for overpriced mediocre pizza, you could make your own for half the price.
