The young still green tails are edible. The pollen is edible. The emerging shoots are edible. The hearts of the 2 feet long stems are edible. The starchy parts of the roots are edible. I prefer the pollen, the green tails, and hearts. Using the roots is WAY too much work. The hearts go well on burgers. The tails go well in stir fry. The pollen goes well in baked goods (sift the insects out first!)

The leaves are good for weaving, but shrink and become shitty as they dry. The mature tails that have not started to fluff out are good for making torches. The fluff is good for insulation for clothing and stuffing for pillows, with good short term results.
