A person, however, can be. Claiming "french fries don't need anything more than salt" conjures up one of two things. Both are cringe-tier:

1) a whiny manchild picky eater who cries to mommie about having bought the wrong brand of frozen fries. that's significant to him because frozen fries are one of only three foods he will ever eat. the other two being his own semen, and dino tendies.

2)A burnt out, chain-smoking, angry boomer who bitches incessantly about "the man" and how he's down on his luck because of "hard times". alternating between gulp of his Miller High Life and hard drags on a Carlton he explains how he's just a "simple person" who's "always lived here", and puts down those "rich people" who put anything more than salt on fries. As far as he's concerned, a good 'ol Dairy Queen is all you need. After all, that's where he met both his first and third wives, and right next to the learning center where he got his GED.

There's nothing pretentious about seasoning fries. It's normal, unless your standard is set by fast food.
