Seconding that other guy; why?
I work in an ICU and we have people on respirators who use their laptops in bed.
When you're completely immobilised, hooked up to five different machines, constantly disturbed by alarms or a nurse fussing with something or having your IV bag changed etc. in one room the hours kinda drag out. Even with their computers these people will, all of them, develop psychosis if they're in the ICU long enough. For some it's a couple days and for others it's a couple weeks but it turns out being stuck in a hospital bed really fucks with your head.
If you're going back in later you really shouldn't feel bad about bringing a computer and playing some WoW or whatever. Or just shitposting on /ck/.
A lot of people either bring a book when they're admitted or have someone bring them one later if they were rushed there but they're usually too tired to concentrate on reading. Watching a movie on your laptop or browsing 4chan or whatever is a little easier and you can just doze off when you need to.

I was in the hospital for a few weeks, admittedly with just a minor problem, but I don't get why people take it so bad
It was fun, people screaming and in pain was just an aesthetic background, you could lay all day in bed and do nothing AND not feel guilty about it, nurses and doctors are very nice to you, I'm alone IRL so it also gave me a sense of community/human interaction that I enjoyed
