Takes a large volume of milk. Takes knowledge, space, and time to make.

>> No.10484823

takes time and knowledge to produce. As well as a decent sized storage/aging facility. All of these costs must be borne by a company or individual for a period of time before the product can be sold.

Generally it will take a fairly long period of time to make back the initial investment.

tldr; niche industries are niche

Because it uses only a portion of the ingredient required to make it, is labor intensive, creates a lot of waste, and in most cases needs to be aged. You pay for the process, not the product.

>> No.10484897

I do not understand why older cheese is more expensive.

In the end output should be the same whether you make an riped cheese or not.

>> No.10484906

>>10484897
>I do not understand why older cheese is more expensive.
Because the process of aging takes time, and space. The space must be climate controlled and secure from pests.

This shit is all added expense, and that adds to the final cost of the product.

What cheeses is Australia known for? I've only visitied, but when I was there the cheese was no different than the generic US stuff. (talking actual cheese, not processed shit) It was palatable but it was nothing special. What do you have that's on the level of Stilton, Camembert, Raclette, Parm Reg, etc?

Obviously we don't have our own unique cheeses as we've only been a real nation for 120 or so years, but we do bloody good imitations, plenty of good local stuff for cheap.

They don't even taste that good.

I can get nacho cheese at Krogers that tastes better.
