Buy a beginer-oriented cookbook. Follow directions. As you gain experience you'll get better.

Part of the reason for starting with a cookbook is because it's limited. The vastness of the internet makes it overwhelming and confusing for noobs.

I suggest Jamie's Food Revolution by Jamie Oliver. Yeah, the author is a first rate fag. But that book is excellent. It has step by step photos for everything, The recipes are solid and there are no hard-to-find or expensive ingredients called for.
