No, do the math. It's not enough calories, you could drink 4 liters of soda and you still wouldn't even make it to 2000 calories.
I would love it if you could gain weight from soda, but you really can't using anywhere close to a realistic amount of daily soda drinking.

>> No.10445945

>> No.10445948

>Not all calories are equal.
In terms of weight gain all calories are essentially equal. There's a reason calorie counts are stamped on everything now. It's thermodynamics, you're not going to magically balloon up to morbidly obesity with 2000 calories a day consumed no matter where those 2000 calories came from.

>> No.10445951

I've been very clear on what I'm arguing, soda doesn't make you fat, eating way too much does. Blaming soda and switching to diet soda is just a lazy excuse fat people use to avoid actually cutting back on the real problem that is their overeating.

Here's some math: carbohydrate intake like that causes the body to retain 2.7 grams of water for every gram stored as liver or muscle glycogen. Fluid retention is added weight and bulk. Also, the nutrients expended to process the sugars and sodium in soda will put you into a insulin spike and then a blood pressure spike, and then a dip where you'll start craving more food -because sugar isn't satiating or nutritious. Which means you're driven to eat more calories.

>> No.10445969

>>10445956
You're not drinking 4 liters of soda a day. The amount of calories you get from soda is a negligible part of why you're obese if you are obese. You could stop drinking soda and your weight wouldn't change much.
Again, show me the math that contradicts this because it doesn't exist and you're just bullshitting.

And what about calories that leave the body as waste? What about calories that the body uses efficiently and then discards the excess? What about calories that don't cause insulin resistance, or metabolic syndrome, or other complicated physiological and digestive situations? It's so much more complicated than calories in and out. Thermodynamics is nice to reference and no one is arguing against them - but it's a red herring argument that completely ignores the reality of a very complex picture.

>> No.10445982

>>10445948
Its a bit more complicated than that. You body can use calories from simple carbohydrates like sugar more easily than other calories. Most reactions your cells must cause the chemical to go through to get it to the point it can be used for basic respiration requires some energy input.
Not to mention how easily absorbed sugars are by your digestive system

>> No.10445984

Oh come on. That's not the same thing as actual weight gain. Go look up how much weight you gain with water retention, it's like 1-2 lb max.

sugar messes with your body's ability to produce and release the hunger hormones. they're the only things telling you not to eat.

you may not like it but you're effectively a robot and those hormones are part of your programming. your body acts and responds to what those hormones tell you to do. and by eating lots of sugar you're being programmed from an external source. like a robot a worm virus.

Not him but I know a thing a two about chemistry and regularly like to post here.

I don't have any numbers, but I can 106% guarantee you that the incidence of heart disease over the past 4 decades, which I believe is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S., is DIRECTLY due to an excessive and chronic over consumption of sugar.

Pretty sure alcohol related deaths are much lower.

Not defending alcoholism or drunk driving or constant drunkenness, but I'm pretty sure sugar does kill more people than alcohol. I can't, and won't be bothered to look up official CDC numbers. However, sugar is more ubiquitous than alcohol (just think of your diet today), and chronic over consumption, coupled by the fact that most people are unaware of what they eat, has all the elements to cause an health epidemic.

I can, upon request, post more about the chemistry of sugar metabolism and it's detrimental effects caused by OVER-CONSUMPTION. The key really is moderation.

I have never once heard a single person complain about MGD. I’m Canadian, and it’s my beer of choice. I bring cases with me camping, and often meet Europeans. I offer them an ice cold MGD and they tell me they had no idea Canada had such great beer. I tell them it’s American. What amazes me is that Europeans never seem to know about dumping a bag of ice into your case of beer and keeping it under the picnic table to ensure ice cold beer for the day.
