In my experience mostly true. The argument is conflated as a lot of the American versions are just cooked from frozen and laden with MSG, however if you don't consider chain restaurants, American versions easily compete. The food I had in Italy was not really that much better than good Italian food I've had here, though the average quality was higher as cheap meals in Italy were much much better than italian dishes I've had at chain restaurants. Authentic Mexican food is disgusting and I'd much rather eat Americanized.

The only exception that I can attest to personally is Chinese food. Hot pots, pork buns, all sorts of dim sum and noodle dishes etc. are all vastly superior to American Chinese food which is pretty much defined as being MSG-laden slop.

There's some dishes that the U.S. never bothered to convert, probably because it doesn't need to be but some Mexican dishes are pretty great. Honestly, though, Taco Bell tastes amazing and hard shell is the second greatest improvement ever conceived.

Depends. In Italy there's more of a focus on local, seasonal ingredients and regional, traditionally made products. This dish is made at this time of the year when this is in season and we use the locally produced X, Y and Z to show it off to best effect. Plenty of good places in the US manage to do the same, but it's less common and more at the high end. If you're going apples to apples you've got to compare some of the best Italian restaurants in the US (mostly in major cities) to pretty much any decent place in Italy that isn't a tourist trap.

Judging by those textbooks, you need to completely revamp your diet. It's not good for your brain! You need to get rid of cheap beer, soda, and processed crap. Eat lots of balanced meals with either salmon or eggs for the meat (good for reducing brain inflamation and improving brain function) and get a lot of vitamin C and B12. I would also recommend ginkgo biloba for memory function. These are all really cheap things to incorporate into your diet except maybe salmon which might get expensive depending on where you live. Just noticed your textbooks and thought I'd share my experience. I was struggling in comp sci, but starting to eat correctly and work out more put me in the right frame of mind. I got some friends coming over this weekend and am going to prepare snacks. Artichoke dip + bread / crackers + veggies has been the best thing I've thought of so far, but I remembered today that one of the guests has celiac's disease. He's also a bit of a portly fellow, so I'm nervous about veggies / dip appealing to him (although obviously the dip is very fatty). Is there some gluten-free snack I could prepare alongside the artichoke dip / bread situation that would sort of fit the mood? Also open to scrapping the plan entirely and starting over, but still need gluten-free suggestions.
