It's a job. It might not be glorious, you might deal with assholes, and you might not enjoy doing what you'll do. Still, at the end of the week it's a paycheck. It's work experience. It's a potential recommendation for when you apply for something you're more interested in. So rock on, anon. Take pride in the fact that you're working, making your own money, and helping society by paying taxes. Enjoy yourself, make the best of it, and try to have fun.
That aside, some actual advice would be to show up on time. Being late will get you fired fast.

When I was your age I got two jobs: overnight stocker at Walmart and busboy at Panera. Doing both fucking sucked but eventually I earned enough to buy a car and had to choose which job to dump. I dumped Panera. Working in food service is dirty, smelly, and hectic. My anxiety flared up as I had to take care of multiple things at the same time in the view of hundreds of people who came in everyday. My overnight job at Walmart had me chilling in the electronics department answering phones with barely any customers to deal with. It was perfect for going to college without stressing me the fuck out.
But truthfully? Being a janitor at the college was fucking awesome because it paid for my education and I worked solo listening to audiobooks all day. Barely ever saw my boss. That’s a good minimum wage job

1.) Always show up on time.
2.) If you've got time to lean, you've got time to clean." Always be in motion, your bosses will notice.
3.) Don't be an asshole. You may not work with the most friendly people, but try to get on their good side and don't ever complain about your job. Chances are some of them have it much worse off than you do.
4.) Have fun with it! It's rewarding work, there's gonna be something you like about it as long as you keep a positive attitude.
5.) Do not fuck around when it comes to the health code and food safety.

Depends on how pretentious of a place you want to apply to, but your average walk-in family restaurant will likely accept you without experience as long as you're not looking for chef work and they have open positions. It's an okay entry level job and looks good for other hospitality services.
Applying for an entry level job is less about how fancy your resume looks and more about having a good interview and looking like a decent human being who can and willomgly do a basic job without health issues or other baggage.

I thought it was hilarious that only supervisors/management were allowed to cut vegetables or slice meat or "bake bread." I assumed that would be a simple requirement to work there at all. Also the fact that they have them show up like 4 hours early to basically sit around and wait for bread to finish while doing nothing. Got yelled at my first week there for slicing an onion because we were running low. It's a really easy as fuck job but they have odd standards on everything and a decent amount of pointless cleaning.

I worked with a combination of fellow high school students as well as adult deadbeats who couldn't find anything better. It made for good chemistry. Fry Guy is the easiest job and is typically what they start everyone on. Then you start getting crosstrained on sandwich making, expediting, cashier, and eventually grill. Often there's a dedicated grill guy who also does the dishes, at least at my store there was.

I didn't mind cashiering or doing drive thru. You have to put up with more customer service shit, but it was never too bad in my location. We had a lot of regulars who were very nice. You'd be surprised how many people go to Wendy's every single fucking day. Often old people. My favorite regular was a truck driver who always wanted fries fresh out of the frier, which of course I would always get for him. He stopped coming in one day and I later read in the paper that he was killed in a motorcycle accident.

I worked fast food 16-18.

The thing that really blows is the customers get all irate about shit. DO NOT let that shit get to you. It will slow you down, and you'll have more shit to do in less time. If they want to bitch, tell them you have work to do (or you're helping someone else) and you'll get a manager. Don't deal with it. If they get all crazy on you, don't deal with it, get the manager. If they pull a gun, give them the register and anything they want to eat.

Eat anything you can for free. Try to be somewhat healthy if you can. Be stealthy about it if you are stealing. Observe others' methods.

Work holidays. That shit is 2.5X.

Bring weed and alcohol to share with your coworkers. That will endear you and you will 100% get laid, as long as you're not expecting a model. Don't' let the manager catch you, unless the manager is cool. Make sure you know the manager is cool from other coworkers.

Become a shift leader or Asst. Manager or whatever it's called. The pay bump is great and the training is fucking easy. The management experience is fucking resume gold. Don't be a dick about telling people what to do - just be firm and threaten to report anyone who fucks with you. They'll get fired for sure. If a coworker gets crazy on you, call the cops immediately.

Lol. Nah I kept a job for 6 years and was always late. I ended up quitting for a better job

Use indeed.com. I’ve found jobs on there that started at $15 an hour and it was easy work

Never settle for the food industry. Shitty pay for dealing with assholes all day. There’s plenty of jobs out there.

>> No.10379547

I'd say don't take it too seriously, don't let them make you think you're on thin ice or some shit after your first fuck up. Fuck ups happen. They're used to stoners and literal illiterates operating in the kitchen, don't think you have to maintain some crazy level of quality. Don't ever let food be dirty, but other than that don't worry about shit. Sometimes things take a little longer, sometimes it's busy. If they put the whole restaurant on your shoulders, that's tough shit for them because it'll collapse.

Don't overthink things. You'll learn to hate it in about 2 weeks unless you have any coworkers with decent asses so you have something to look at while on the clock. It's shit work for shit pay BUT - it does build character and gives you motivation to better yourself and pursue other, better opportunities.

This.
If you have ever worked food service or service in general you get to see the types of people working there and also the types of shit those people put up with just by virtue of working there. Sometimes people really are awful scum who can't get any other job, but that's not the majority. A lot of people in retail especially just get stuck in it because it's easier and there are corporation-required raises so it's at least a stable position.

How could anyone settle for a minimum wage job. I could see single moms getting stuck, but if you're a dude... get a trade

>> No.10379648

>>10379631
You know not all jobs are minimum wage forever, right? Like I said, a lot fo corporations require you to get a raise after so long

>> No.10379670

>>10379648
So getting a raise that almost equals the rate of inflation? They will still be stuck at the bottom forever. Even a manager at a fast food restaurant or grocery store doesn’t make as much as an entry level job with a trade. My survey assistants start at $33.43 an hour, and that’s with a high school education. Of course, it’s hard work and 80% of them get fired in less than a month for not being willing to do the work required of them. I’m in a union, so if we don’t get rid of them before their probationary period ends, we are stuck with them. In 7 years only 2 girls have ever lasted longer than a month, and both of them quit in less than 6 months. They could both handle the work, they just didn’t want to.
