Depends on how hot the tap water is. Cold water boils faster than room temperature water. Water that is already hot will of course hot boiling temperatures faster.

Plumbing codes have specified copper pipes for hot water for well over a century. Lead was only supposed to be used for cold water.

>Americans only get 110 volts
Wrong. We have both 110 (actually 120) and 220 (actually 240) in our houses, on separate circuits. The service lines to the breaker panel are 60Hz 240V split-phase. Most outlets are 120V single-phase, but there are always a few outlets wired for 240V to accommodate major appliances (including an electric range if you're so unfortunate as to not have gas service).

Sometimes, when I have to heat a lot of water for boiling, I heat some of it on my electric range and as much as possible in my electric kettle, the pour the water from the kettle into the pot when it is boiling. That way I have at least double the power input. This reminds me that one of those days I'll have to get a 3000W kettle instead of the ordinary 2000W ones. My last holiday apartment had one of those, it was great.

The phenomena you mention does exist in very specific (basically lab) conditions but in practice hot water heats up to a boil slightly quicker or about the same as cold.

You're retarded
American hot water pipes have been copper for over a century, only some older cold water pipes are lead
Your tap water is more likely to be contaminant free if you get it hot in the US
stop being a retarded bong who still has lead pipes from the 1600s

>> No.10176257

I can't tell you the science behind why that sounds stupid, because I don't know. What I do know is that in my life time it always takes fucking 10 minutes of the sink running for the water to start coming out hot. In that time I could have boiled two pots or water.

You're a fucking dumbass, even copper pipes will have certain dissolved minerals that hot water more readily picks up.

Hot water sometimes (partially) freezes faster than cold water, but it requires a very finely tuned set of conditions for that to happen.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mpemba_effect

The inverse Mpemba effect that OP describes may be possible, but it requires that the heated systems are out of equilibrium, which is not the case for tap water.

Maybe it's because my dad is an HVAC engineer, but I can't imagine being so ignorant as an adult that you don't understand the relationship between heat and boiling.
