Imagine every day you work for someone, sure the money is awesome but you hate it. This anon likely makes around 12+ an hour. Do you know how hard it is to find a job where you make OVER 7/h? I have been looking. The only places that will pay you over 7 are places that fucking suck and the management doesn't fucking care how they treat you. Walmart, Sams, Costco... That's why factory jobs are so high looking for people and firing. I have a feeling that these people don't ever get fired vs quitting.

I did it for 8 years. At the time I enjoyed it.

But looking back it was actually a waste of time. You give up so much and there is just no need to. Working 16 hour shifts and having your boss bitch because you take a 20 minute break, getting shit because you dare try and take a weekend off, being paid the bare minimum, being spoken to in a certain way because thats 'how it happens in the industry'.

It's all wrong. Theres no need for it to be that way. Do I get the same 'buzz' working in finance as a kitchen? Probably not. But thats more than offset by the quality of life I gained. It is far more rewarding to keep cooking as a passion and get a job that allows you to actually go to restaurants on a saturday night rather than being in the kitchen sweating over a grill.

Trained this dude in the bakery where I work, which entails mixing and cutting dough, baking it to make bread, you know, what you'd expect a bakery to do. There's a girl in my dept whose whole job is burning CDs and printing reports, putting them in envelopes, and taking them to the mail room. This is entry level stuff, and she's gotta make twice what that nursing home cook guy is making.

I worked at a minor league baseball stadium's concessions when I was in highschool.

We were not allowed to eat the food but that rule was not enforced as long as you didn't do it out in the open.

this is how i made it out of customer service and into a competitive industry. all of my coworkers have a bachelor's degree, some have a masters, but i took classes at my local community college and applied to entry level jobs until i found a startup willing to pay me peanuts in exchange for valuable experience. a year later i got two job offers, one from apple for a one year contract making over 42k, and another from a local business as a full-time salaried employee.

i'm still working on my associate's degree, because i legit still have a lot of technical skills to learn. but the point is, it can be done. if you are driven and you have a history of showing up to work reliably and on time, you are already an above average and valuable employee.

Do you have a real oil filter (like with a pump) or do you have to use those big coffee like filters in a china cap and pots? The place I work we use the basic filter method and the oil doesn't get cleaned nearly enough. It's honestly pretty gross.

We were paying some company $260 a month to come in to clean our single fryer and I told the owner it would be cheaper to let me come in early once a week to change the oil/filter. It is a fryer that filters itself so we can get about a week out of the oil.

This is from when I was working for an airline caterer. A coworker was checking the meals for a cross country flight and we were out of the hot sausage sandwiches, so he got a substitution to use cold ham croissant sandwiches. Pretty typical stuff.

However, he put the sandwiches in the oven racks and didn't provide a note for the flight attendents not to cook them as their packaging was not oven safe. I don't know how bad it was other than filling the cabin with smoke. He ended up quitting a few days later while another coworker was on vacation so that I and the other checker had to pull two 70 hour weeks.

After I got my A+ cert I was able to get a job making 16/he within a couple weeks and went to $19/he about 6 months later after I moved from being a contractor to an actual employee of the company. I don't really know alot of people who have worked in fast food but I have one friend who did a couple months working a midnight shift at an an airport fast food restaurant. Don't remember which one, worst story he told was this
