Been on a real scotch bender for the last six months starting when the last of my bourbon ran dry, but I finally got tired of it. I like to have an all-occasions drink handy and to me scotch is a drink that the situation has to warrant, so I picked up some Woodford Reserve and Buffalo Trace. That's kept me going for the last month or so, I like to change things up a little and I can't fathom people who act like you have to choose between scotch or bourbon, there's too much variety out there to want to pick a side.

>>9454133
And Laimrig is 50-75% more expensive. Bowmore is retiring the darkest and current 12,18 yos if I recall correctly and replacing them with a new range. The sherried equivalent is now 10 yo, and apparently an abomination.
On another note why would you want to drink as strong as possible? I enjoy cask strength whiskies due to the fact that it is possible to dilute very easily but re-concentrating 40% into cask strength is just not very feasible.

Anyone tasted Kavalan? I have tried the bourbon, sherry and vino finished whiskies, bourbon tasted like vanilla extract and the sherry took very long nosing before it tasted like anything but rum.

what are the laws like in america for when you can buy alcohol? im sure you remember how it sucks back over here when you want a drink but then realise its like 5 past 10 and you cant buy anything

I think the offies are closed on Sundays, but you can buy beer and wine in the grocery stores, but I honestly don't know. I'm a bit OCD and always keep a highly organized stock of booze at home. A shortage of alcohol emergency would be an almost unthinkable disaster.

A friend of mine jokingly came up with a new derivative unit. 12,5 units of alcohol are sufficient to have a pleasant evening (generally), equivalent of a 0,5l bottle of 40 ABV liquor. So we computed the number of pleasant evenings that could be had at our current stocks. I think we both ended up between 50 and 60, sufficient for a small get together, for over a week. The lesson is not to let your stocks dip below 50.

>> No.9466801

>>9466784
Ooooohhh! That is a metric I can use. Does the unit have a name? Quick calc indicates I have over 400 of your units in stock in spirits alone, so life is good.

>> No.9466847

>>9466801
No set name, feel free to invent your own.
Isn't 400 a bit excessive, considering that there is only a set amount of alcohol that can be consumed in a day. Even if you were super al/ck/ the amount of fluid by volume that you have in store is quite significant. What do you do when there is a bottle that you would like to buy, does your size of stock prevent indulging in impulse purchases? Might I ask what kind of distribution you have going on, lets say whisky/whiskey/rum/etc.

10 whisky / 7 whiskey / 6 cognac / 6 tequila / 5 gin / 3 rum / 2 vodka + a variety of other single bottles. also 30 or so bottles of wine and a shit ton of beer. Hmm... maybe it is a bit excessive. Better get drinking!

Yes, not great but quite nice. I was more impressed by Hibiki/Hakushu 12s. Things to keep in mind are that NAS dominates, meaning that getting jap whisky with an age statement may become even more difficult over time. Nikka has de facto only NAS production currently. The other aspect is that it is quite likely to be a bit pricy, weigh your options.

I don't know I up in that rtegion and toitally missed it. It's made with whisky distilled in Indiana, then blended with a small amount of local single malt whisky, and rocky mountain water. So it's not a totally local product. it still might be good, but I don't like the idea of it at all, i was expecting a totally local product.

Ill give you suggestions to start on, all of these will generally be inexpensive compared to most high end stuff:
>bourbons
Buffalo Trace (low rye mash)
Four Roses Small Batch (high rye mash)
Old Weller Antique (wheated mash)
>rye whiskey
Rittenhouse
Pikesville
Sazerac 6yo (lil saz)
>Canadian whisky
Forty Creek Copper Pot Still
Ninety 90 Proof 20 Year Old
Stalk and Barrel Single Malt
>Single Malt Scotch
Auchentoshan 12 (Lowlands)
Glendronach 12 (Highlands)
Craigellachie 13 (Speyside)
Talisker 10 (Islands)
Hazelburn 12 or Springbank 10 (Campbeltown)
Caol Ila 12 or Bunnahabhain 12 (Islay)
>Japanese whisky
Nikka Pure Malt
Hibiki 12
Yoichi 10
>Indian whisky
Pretty much Amrut is the only big one, the Fusion is usually a decent start.
>Other world whiskies
Look into Kavalan from Taiwan, notably the Soloist series, along with Tasmanian whiskies like Sullivans Cove

Quite fancy trying some bourbon, and it seems amazon have a sale on. Woodford reserve, makers mark, and wild turkey 101 are all £25 which is a bit less than normal. Buffalo trace is £15, normally around £20. What should I get? I like Scottish whisky a lot, especially Islay and speyside sherried stuff but I realise bourbon is quite different. Bought a few bottles of Bulleit when it was on offer and enjoyed it a lot.

if you're going to consume alcohol outside of a restaurant or bar, make absolutely damn well sure you're drinking something you really enjoy. Going out and drinking, sure, accept whatever the venue has, but drink something nice whenever possible

>> No.9471674

Not feeling too well today. I've got a cold. My mum recommended I try tea with milk, sugar, and whisky. It's pretty damn good, especially with a smoky Islay.

Infinitely better than a lot of the cold medicines I've had.
