Welcome to the /ck/ challenge: Monthly edition!

The theme is announced on the 1st of every month, and submissions are welcome up until the 23rd.
After that the voting/rating thread goes up and everyone is welcome to vote on the submitted dishes.


VOTING GUIDELINES

Voting follows an 'Iron Chef' style scoring system. This means you, the people of /ck/, will judge each entry individually instead of deciding on what you feel is the "best" dish.

We will have two modes of voting:
Casual votes: Vote for as few or as many submissions as you like. Votes will not be tallied and purely for contestants to know how they are doing.
Competitive votes: To submit a competitive vote, you must vote for EVERY submission. These votes will be counted and the winner announced.

Dishes are scored out of a total 20 points, based on 4 categories (worth a maximum of 5 points each); Presentation, Originality, Appeal and Challenge Goals. You may award 0's if you feel the contestant did not meet your expectations for a category.

-Presentation: The appearance of items on the plate; plating skills
-Originality: Creativity in composing the dish
-Appeal: How appetizing the food looks/whether or not the dish appeals to your personal taste as a voter
-Challenge Goals: How closely the entry followed the challenge goal(s)

The distinction between Presentation and Appeal: If someone submits an artfully arranged but burnt steak as an entry, it may score high in Presentation but low in appeal.

I was pretty new to cooking when I participated last year. I did learn a lot like how to look at multiple recipes for something and then turning it into my own thing by altering it in ways that were appealing to me. It's fun trying to be creative. Recipes are usually in the verticals. If someone doesn't post a vertical, they will sometimes still post their recipe, and if they don't, you can just ask them for it.

As some of us will remember, back in the last challenge we had 2 contestants who tried their best to ruin and cheat the competition.

There was Lyin' Tom, the guy who cooked chicken and invented a long winded story about his dead grandmother making it for him when he was a kid and how proud she'd have been of his dish to score pity points. He later admitted to it being made up and dropped out, so that sorted itself out.

The biggest thing that damaged it was that guy Yellowmug. He posted ridiculous dishes like a 'frog' made out of a moldy apple then posted high scores for himself, as well as unreasonable low scores to the other contestants. Bubble acknowledged that he'd been doing this but said she was counting his scores anyway. Obviously that's bs when people are putting effort into this and he's making a mockery of it.

What measures do you plan on taking to stop Yellowmug and possibly apprentices of his from doing the same again?

Scallions are a pain but I've cut a lot of them when I was in food service. Here's some tips:

1) Get rid of any soggy crap. Just cut it off. You don't have to worry about saving food because onions are extremely cheap. In fact, you can put your bulb in a glass of water and it'll regrow with enough sunlight.

2) Chop 'em fine. Get a sharp knife and really spend your time getting them fine. Speed comes later.

3) Don't fear the white. A little white is good and can help add color and kick.

If you want to do a folded omelet, then you have to let the eggs set, flip it over, and put the fillings on top, throw some cheese shreds on top of that, then try covering with a glass top. The glass top helps hold the heat in and melt everything. When it's ready, fold and serve.

For a casual competition it's top tier, but if it were to be served in any type of high-end restaurant, serving food in a vessel that's inedible is considered taboo.
