I like to wash my hands each time I make contact with the garlic. So, peel and then a quick wash. Then chop and a quick wash. If I handle it again i'll do another wash. annoying but it's the only thing that works for me

Would it help to coat your fingers in cooking oil before handling the garlic, to act as a sort of liquid glove that washes off?

Buy pre-sliced garlic or something.

Otherwise, rub your fingers along the sides of your sink if it's stainless steel. I think they make stainless steel bars that are designed for just this, getting the garlic stink off your fingers.

I have no idea why it works but like another anon said - it works to an extent.

You're gonna think I'm full of shit until you do this:

Rub you hands on stainless steel. Chrome might work, but stainless works. Sink, faucet, stainless bowls, etc. Your hands will smell lightly metallic, but thats better than garlic. It will also go away on its own much faster than garlic. Just try it, its free, easy and quick.

They also make "soap bars" made out of stainless steel specifically to get rid of smells.

If you roast garlic cloves whole with the tops cut off you can squeeze out the roasted garlic with a papertowel in your hand, and then you are scent free.

Better yet if you have a chinois or tamis you can press the roasted garlic through that, then once every year you can roast 3 pounds of garlic and pass it all, then put them in small containers with clarified butter or animal fat over top of it as a seal and have roasted garlic whenever you want. It loses quality if frozen but if you're concerned about eating year old garlic thats properly preserved then just freeze it.

I only make about a pound per year in yield and its great to have around at a whim because outside of sweets most things benefit from garlic, just get used to brushing your teeth 3 times a day if you don't want ghoul breath.

I also like it when i drip food in my beard and I can putt it up to my nose and smell the food later. It's like getting to experience the meal all over again.

Slice a lemon and rub it over your hands.
People from the gulf will tell you this trick. When you go to a crawfish boil, a lot of people will have bowls of lemon slices out for people to rub their hands down with to get the crawfish smell out.
