4nd round of the 5th Annual /ck/ Top Master Iron Chef Ultimate Nightmare Kitchen Survivor Challenge!

This is the second thread. Please allow me to repost entries before submitting new ones.

Reminder :
-Please timestamp your submission! Detailing the cooking process/posting a vertical is encouraged but not required. If posting multiple photos, you don't need to timestamp each one, as long as the final submission photo is timestamped.
-You MUST use a unique identifier; if you don't want to use a tripcode, you must have some other way to distinguish yourself from the other contestants, such as a cute bird or scary statue in your timestamped entry, as long as it's clearly visible and you use it consistently.

The theme of Round Four is...

Cookies!

Let's start the cruel process of elimination with a sweet bite... There are no restrictions or requirements, as long as it seems like a pleasant thing. While you're perfectly welcome to make a large spread of food, please make sure there is clearly a "main dish" because that is what people will be voting on.

Two contestants will not be moving on to the next round.

This is eyepatch. Timestamp and identifier incoming. I made a cookie pizza for this round. It's a giant sugar cookie topped with peanut butter frosting and chocolate covered oreo balls. It was supposed to have blueberry frosting and candied cashews on there as well, but both those things got fucked up. I also planned on putting home made gummie worms in rings around the oreo balls, but the worms turned out to be another failure. I don't make sweets very often, so this was fun experimenting with stuff, even though half of what I made turned out shitty.

I fucking love cheesecake. And I'm sure these are delicious. I hate to do it, but they technically aren't cookies, they even have the word cake in their name. I would love to see your idea of a 5/5 presentation, especially for the biscotti. Obvious troll vote, I wouldn't even count this if I were Bubble.

>> No.7541992

I would seriously consider a rule where if someone gives a score lower than 3/5 for a category, they are required to offer some form of criticism as to why they voted so low. These troll votes are getting obnoxious.

That guy voting wasn't me, but here is my scale for challenge goals

1/5 - does not follow challenge goals
2/5 - very loosely follows challenge goals
3/5 - simply follows goals
4/5 - makes positive/creative spin on goals
5/5 - Absolutely fantastically creative and relevant application of goals

Personally, I disagree with his scoring, but it's his interpretation, and I can tell you that this kneejerk "TROLL" reaction has happened to me almost every time i have voted.

I score tough. I'm mostly likely not going to give you 5/5 in a category unless you dish is really really really good. So stop being little whiny bitches and complaining every single time your dish doesn't get over 15/20.

I'm not even bothering voting anymore because you guys have ruined your own stupid competition

>> No.7542113

>>7542085
>you guys have ruined your own stupid competition
I doubt it's competitors making those accusations.
I agree with what you said though.
I got low marks last round and was, like, yep, I deserved that.

>> No.7542126

>>7542085
I have no issue with someone scoring tough, see
>>7541456
as an example of a tough but fair score. It's clear there is a relative value between the dishes; it can be identified that one dish did better than another in a certain category and I can clearly see why the voter chose those scores relative to the other dishes without even needing a written explanation.

scoring 2/5 across the board for presentation like
>>7541388
when there is an obvious disparity in how the dishes appear cannot in my eyes be taken seriously.

I don't know if it means anything to you but I'm not even participating in the competition, and haven't spoken up until now. I have no problem ignoring trolls, but when it affects the rating of dishes people have obviously worked hard on preparing I feel the need to say something about it.

>> No.7542143

>>7542085

I mostly agree with you're understanding of challenge goals, but it's really open to interpretation on a case by case basis. It seems like a lot of people are taking challenge goals as black and white (either a 0 or a 5).

I wouldn't give the 4 season cookies a 5/5, because they're more like mini cheesecakes with cookie crusts. I also wouldn't give the dog cookies 0/5, because they were kind of made to look like cookies, and were meant to mimic dog cookie flavors. Things like the pistachio shortbread cookies, the pecan caramel ones, and the chocolate pretzel crisp were all obviously cookies and should get 5/5.

>> No.7542149

>>7542126
Yeah, you know what I probably didn't look as closely at that one.

I still don't know. I mean I try to put at least a sentence explaining my reasoning under each vote. It at least gives people an idea. I guess i encourage everyone to at least give a short explanation?

>> No.7542160

>>7542143
Yeah see I have a different scoring system but yours still works.

For example I'd probably give the pistachio cookies a 3/5, whereas the cheesecake cookie ones would probably get a 4

Citrus Cookies!
The base cookie is a maple flavored butter cookie and the icing is made with 3 different freshly pressed citrus juices (Lime for green, Lemon for yellow and Orange for orange)

Using a mild flavoured cookie makes the bright flavor of the icing pop out much more while still not being bland.

Sadly, taking pictures at night doesn't really do justice to the really bright colors, but that's part of the game I guess.

I love Indian food, but it has to be the worst possible cuisine to judge based solely on a description and pictures, without being able to taste/smell it.

It would also without a doubt get flooded with the same shitposting that derails any mention of Indian food in other threads, as of late.

I was that voter. I agree that there is disparity between the dishes but my vote doesn't consider only those dishes. I think they all look just below average but none are so bad that they would be 1/5.

For me, the biscotti just looked cheesy, lacked colour, and had a lazy use of empty space. As for something close to 5/5, Anon no. 556 and frsgp are my two favourite contestants of the challenges. If you're really interested you can look up their entries.

As for the 4/5 for CG, the entries all made me think, 'Is this really a cookie?'. I would say yes but only after some deliberation. I personally disagree wtih >>7542085 's style of voting on challenge goals. To me, they're mixing up Challenge Goals with Originality.

But I try to be fair in my voting. I consider 3/5 a good score, 4/5 remarkable and 5/5 faultless. I try to vote consistently for all contestants so I don't really think it matters if I vote differently to others, or if others vote differently to me. As long as everyone votes for everybody in a way they think is fair, the votes will even out. If the winner gets an average of 12 or 18, I don't think it matters - they win. To me, the problem is when some people vote very low for only some contestants but don't vote for others, or if some vote high for only some contestants but don't vote for others.

I have also tried to give criticism when I can but sometimes I just don't have much to say or it just feels pointless. I know I've written quite a lot in this post so I might seem hypocritical but it does frustrate me when people are quick to call 'troll' because their opinion differs.

Here's my difference in Challenge Goals and Originality:

Let's use the PBJ platter as an example. To me that does a good job following the challenge goals. A solid 3 or 4 out of 5. They adapted something well for children.

But what it original? No not at all. Pub chips, pbj and spinach? Not really inspired whatsoever.
