where can you find serious bartending/drinkmixing instructions?

I can't find anything that is not shitty or sponsored content

I've only read around a third of these, but I'd be confident looking for anything in pic related.

I'm sure you know where to find pdf's.

My original, unguided career goal panned out, and one drunken night I thought, "shit, I've loved libraries since I could look at pictures and flip pages, maybe I'll look into becoming a librarian".

>quiet and a/c and all the comfy shit that goes along with libraries

Look up librarian career shit and it's nothing but pages of articles about how a librarian degree is the stupidest thing you could possibly think of in this burgeoning digital age.

I just want to be alone and organize things and be an authority on new publications and occasionally shush people... I'm also a drunk, so it would be perfect.

Actual librarian here. Fuck you nigger, check the statistics. Libraries are booming in the digital age. We loan a lot more than books. We have movies, software, hardware like e-readers and digital e-book libraries with hundereds of thousanda of works.

It is god tier. Plus it's chill as fuck if you have free wifi too

Depends. Obviously a lot more in metropolian areas than in rursl places. It's a lifetime job, most senior librariand have been at it for 40+ years, but theres a need for young blood since old people are shit with tech.

Entry here is 3k/month and it tops at 4k after 15 years + xmas bonus since we're goverment employees depending on where you work.

Depends on your country. In Germany you either get a bachelors in library sciences (which lets you work in the tech and culture sectord too, since we dabble heavily in archiving, SQL and the creation and advertising of digital media. You learn a lot about managing events too. It's very well rounded.

I'm not a librarian per se, I just work in circulation, the person who checks in/checks out materials at the front desk - but I agree it's a pretty comfy job with no signs of "dying out". Things are becoming more digitized and our roles are shifting with technology (we are doing our paging lists with iPads now and I'm the only young employee who can figure out how to use the scanner), but it is undoubtedly the least stressful job you can find these days.

It sounds like such a cop-out (no offence), but I guess I should look back into going to librarian school.

Maybe I'll be in debt for life but it's better than working in a fucking kitchen.

If you live in USA, you don't need a MLS to work at a library, you just can't be a "librarian" or a branch manager or anything higher. I have a bachelor's in art, and I can get pretty far up the ladder with that (the $18/hr positions). After that, they start bribing you with scholarships to think about that master's.
But yeah I totally feel you with those student loans, going back to school is the last thing I would ever consider doing.

>> No.7044217

>>7044177

So what are you doing?

Being a librarian at 50k, with no hope of ever getting anything higher, sounds a lot better than working $18/hr and trying to figure something else out.

>masters in philosophy here

Right now I'm in circulation, registering people for library cards, checking in stuff, checking out stuff. People can ask me to put specific titles on hold for them, but in-depth questions about the collection or a grocery list of items that will hold up the line I send them over to the librarian.
Sadly quite a few of the millennials coming to work at the library are over-educated and in tons of debt. One of the guys we're training has a phD in linguistics, starting at $10.50.

Maybe that person should have thought of that before wasting his parents money on a degree that's useless. You come across as making the assertion that because the person has a degree that's not useful to anyone that he should start out getting 500 USD / year.

some thing's I'm working on

1. getting a lemon twist right
I know you can use a scorer to make a neat twist out of peel, but I can't get it to stay in a tight roll,
maybe if I heated a metal spike and curled it around that would work?

2. any good/interesting ways of pouring lines of shots cleanly, the technique where
you stack shakers works well for cups and glasses, but not for shots

3. good recipes, I know "good" is open to interpretation, but so many are simply advertising for brands of liquor

4. the best way to short pour someone
I know the wet pourer method, but that will only take a quater off a 30ml measure
(the reason for this is mainly for presentation, when you are making drinks that don't call for even measures, but don't want to appear to be stiffing people)

5. information about which combinations of spirits can be pre-mixed with no ill effect
for instance sweet& sour and half&half are fine, but could I pre-mix all the spirits for an LA ice tea to save time on busy nights

I have 35 /ck/ threads open right now, how can I be expected to keep track of who I'm yelling at and who I'm helping?

>read back through the thread
>tuns out i posted some great cocktail book suggestions early on
>then somehow got into a completely unrelated discussion about becoming a librarian, by some coincidence
>then called out some guy for deleting his post, getting mad about it, and not realizing everyone can see what he did

Well, I'm definitely a professional drinker, as you can see how my night has progressed.

I still stand by those books I posted (Boozehound is an easy and entertaining introduction to the contemporary spirit "scene" - I hate that word).

I also still think that other anon might be my therapist.

Back in the early aughts I once got a girl high, helped her write a paper about Paul de Man and Beavis and Butt-head, and convinced her to read it in front of a class of Ivy League students, taught by an EMERITUS professor. What the fuck have you done? Sucka.
