7021208

Pouding chômeur (literally unemployment pudding or poor man's pudding) is a dessert that was created by female factory workers early during the Great Depression

The pouding chômeur is a basic cake batter onto which a hot syrup or caramel is poured before baking. The cake then rises through the liquid which settles at the bottom at the pan, mixing with the batter and creating a distinct layer at the bottom of the dish. The syrup or caramel can be made from brown sugar, white sugar, maple syrup or a combination of these.

At the depth of the Depression, stale bread was also used in lieu of cake batter

Cipaille (I think they have Sea-pie in New England that's similar). It's a six-layer meat pie. You start with a layer of pastry then add a layer of game meat (moose, deer, hare and partridge) then cubed potatoes. You layer until you have six pastry layers.

Growing up my mom would always make saskatoon berry pies and jams. We had a bunch of bushes growing on the farm we could always pick. They are a very great berry I feel bad for people who don't get them. They are the perfect compliment to raspberry, blackberry and blueberry.

Also one canadian food, at least I think is canadian, is beaver tail. I'm not talking about the pastry I'm talking actual beaver tail. Usually in a stew that shit is delicious. Maple snow cones are a huge thing in rural quebec.

But Canada doesn't really have much food unique to us. Most of it is just an amalgamation of a bunch of different places so it's rare that something unique pops up.

>In January 2011, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) threatened a Manitoba resident with a $300 (Canadian dollars) fine for carrying one egg across the U.S. border into Minnesota.[15] In June 2012, CBP held two Seattle men for two and a half hours after discovering six Kinder Surprise eggs in their car upon returning to the U.S. from a trip to Vancouver. According to one of the men detained, a border guard quoted the potential fine as US$2,500 per egg

Kinder is manufactured in Turkey, by disgusting 4th world brown savages that have set up shop as refugees. Syrians have been in Turkey for 4 years, so if you've eaten one in the last 4 years guaranteed you've been exposed to a lot more than just their spit.

I cannot wait until the first poisoned batch hits shelves and tens of thousands of little kids die as a result of shitty parenting.

bloody marys vary across state lines. In Texas and Louisiana a bunch of Tabasco hot sauce is added, along with a celery stick and two olives, but the farther north you go the more mild they are.

Sometimes they serve it with a strip of (american) bacon instead of a celery stick though.

Rappie pie, simultaneously the most disgusting and delicious looking food that exists. It's my favourite thing in the world. My grandma is Acadian and she taught me how to make it from scratch just like how all ten kids in her family would team up to make huge batches. Cover that shit in butter (and I like a little chives on top too actually) and it's like heaven in your mouth.
You won't be able to sleep from the meanest indigestion it gives you. Totally worth it though.

I think it's reasonable to consider pierogies a Canadian (but not invented-by-Canadians, obviously) food due to the fuckhuge Ukrainian population in the prairies. the Ukrainian diaspora to the Canadian prairies was huge enough to be historically significant & the absolute shit-ton of pierogies eaten in Alberta & Saskatchewan is probably culinarily significant to the same degree
