Homebrew mead aged in the fermenter for like a year. It would be awesome if it was carbonated but for some reason the carbonation was barely noticeable in all bottles i've opened so far.

I've drank every single day in this week but i just got a focaccia and some grissinis that i made and i really want to chill and drink a bit. 600ml of a beverage with like 8% to 10% alcohol is no big deal, right?

Drank a horrible Pumpkin Hard Cider, the bomber bottle, from Ace just to check /ck/ on their cider shit.. so gross. Washing out that shit with an Anchor Steam. Don't worry, I had an authentic German oktoberfest-style marzen bomber before that, of which I cannot remember the name. What's a good brand of brandy to drink that's not too hard on the wallet?

American brandies lack a certain something that their French counterparts have. Not to say that American brandy is bad, it just lacks flavor and is lackluster compared to a similarly priced French brandy.

Raynal is the way to go, not much more than E&J or Paul Masson Grande Amber VSOP (best American brandy IMO). It's like an immature cognac because, well that's what it is.

Makers Mark is ok. I prefer Buffalo Trace. Although I think I would prefer Buffalo Trace a lot more if it was 45% like Makers.

Its much harder and more expensive to get hold of bourbons in the UK though which is frustrating since I prefer them to scotch/irish whiskey.

Has anyone gotten their wisdom teeth taken out?

Getting all four of my wisdom teeth taken out on Monday. Anyone here have advice on how soon I can start drinking after the procedure? I know a lot of that depends on what type of pain medication one takes, but I think I'll be able to manage with the pills that dono leave you feeling drowsy.

So what is it? 1 day, 2, 3? I typically stick to beer, but I've also read that carbonaction can be an issue.

I like malty beers so I drink our Lager and Oktoberfest, but I feel like a pleb for not liking hoppy beers. I can't stand our IPA and the Pale Ale we have on tap isn't as hoppy but I still don't like it. How do I change my tastes to like hoppy beers?

Different hop varieties are like different weed strains where they can have all kinds of different fruity flavors. Or skunk, like Lagunitas throwback pale ale. Holy shit that was a dank beer.

I don't even smoke anymore. Can't handle it after taking a break. It's too intense and I feel too guilty. Unless I'm already drunk and someone rolls a blunt at a party.

But yeah, weed and hops have a lot in common.

French 75. It's 1 and half ounces of gin, one ounce simple syrup, 3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice and fill with champagne. Garnish with lemon twist.

It's named after the 75mm field gun the French used to pummel the Boches during WW1. I suppose you could use vodka, but you probably would want to add something else or it'll be a bit one-dimensional.

I drank most of a fifth of svedka last night, I still feel terrible. What do? I have a small amount left, I know itd probably make me feel a little better but tbh im not sure I could drink it without puking.

Not Your Father's Root Beer

It's actually pretty bad. It tastes like normal root beer, but someone poured cough syrup in it. The aftertaste is just so unpleasant and it's entirely too sweet. They should have focused on making a good beer with some sassafras in it for taste rather than trying really hard to make it like regular root beer but with alcohol.

Why is it that the most well-known brands (Smirnoff, Jose Cuervo, Jim Beam, Jack Daniel, Bacardi) are generally considered the shittiest, and some kind of not known brands are better? The only one I found this to be opposite of is with Tanqueray gin.

It's like the inverse of Japanese cars with pre-2000 American cars. Don't the best brands generally win out and become popular?

Protip: in the era of big data, marketing to the wrong audience is a waste of money at best, or damaging at worst. Well off people don't generally get targeted by payday advance loans and rent to own appliance stores. Working poor don't generally get targeted with ads for wealth management services and expensive luggage.

Alcohol marketing at the higher end is done in more subtle ways. People who drink nice stuff are used to being in the know, because they are in the know on other things already. The last thing they want is to drink something that plebs drink. So you'll see a writeup in a foodie magazine, or maybe the staff at your favorite Danny Meyer restaurant will recommend it. Actually nice stuff generally doesn't show up as a CGI overlay on the Super Bowl field. That's reserved for aspirational nice (Grey Goose, Patron, etc) and will ruin the exclusivity of a really nice product.

The big brands produce their products on an industrial scale whereas the luxury brands usually make smaller brands with an eye towards quality. The larger brands can get away with brand recognition. People who drink Jack Daniels drink it because they recognize the brand and other people they know drink it as well. If you ask them what they like about it they'll usually say it's "smooth" i.e. flavorless

Patron is the Grey Goose of Tequila - there ARE fine tequilas out there (usually anejos or reposados), but Patron isn't one. Patron mixes from a bunch of different production sites actually.

For truly good tequila, go tasting at a high end tequila bar. And if they offer it to you chilled, it's not a high end tequila bar.

Did it last year. Got too fucked up and ended up hanging out with the guys running the event after the show. They gave me free beer while we all sat around a makeshift fire talking shit. Had Rivertown's Wit today and Widmer Brothers' Hefe. Pretty solid stuff. I've also been drinking some cheap ass cream sherry and fino. They're probably not great examples of sherry, but I'm totally new to wine so I have no idea. Any recommendations on good sherry?

Of all the review sites I've gone to, people rank Hennessy higher than Courvoisier in the VSOP category. Seems the same with the XO as well. Personally haven't tasted either, but might go and buy some mini-bottles to check which one tastes better.

This bottle proved to me that age has absolutely nothing to do with how good a scotch can be.

The best I've had was Bruichladdich Black Arts 4.1
It's almost unfair. The people at Bruichladdich simply don't play by the same rules as the other distilleries. They have such freedom to make whatever crazy ideas pop into their heads, while the other distilleries are bound by tradition. The flavor notes in Black Arts 4.1 are so wide ranging and well balanced. It fills your mouth and develops so intricately and beautifully. Bottles of it go for like $350 usd around here, so it's prohibitively expensive for many. I would recommend going to a bar that carries it and tasting an ounce or two.

I am in the mood for a peated single malt, but I don't want to spend that much money. I have had Highland Park 12, Laphroaig 10, Ardbeg 10, and Caol Ila 12.

Is Bowmore 12 acceptable? I here extremely mixed things about it, and I know it isn't super peated or smokey. Some people love it while the majority seem to think it is meh.

I don't want to spend over $40 though.

Bowmore ain't bad, but the absolute best bang for your buck as far as Islay goes is either Laphroiag 10 or Ardbeg 10. Bowmore and Talisker can't even compete. Once you start spending more, Laphroiag 18, Ardbeg Uigedeal and the extremely heavily peated Bruichladdich varieties are solid choices.

I know sunlight is bad for hard liquor, but how about artificial light? Or is it just about UV rays from sunlight?

Scotch has a less sweet flavor profile, most of the time. also past experiences could make people stay away from one or the other. I like both, Bourbon is sometimes a better value than scotch but its good to change it up once and a while.

where do you live? I used to work in a pub in Scotland, close to the Isle of Skye (home to a lot of smoky single malts that you might like), the place had about 100 different single malts available for sale, some as old as 21 years.

I usually drink blended whisky straight (don't like the taste of single malts) but recently I found this little gem. Really nice and tasty, not as sweet as you would think either. Goes best on its own, so no tonic or whatever.

Got a Meantime Chocolate Porter. Very good bitter chocolate notes in there. If any Brit Bongs are in to porters, id reccomend giving it a try.

Used to make a lot of cheesecake with it when I was working in kitchens. Goes well with quite a few other flavours as well, - honeycomb, coffee, chocolate.

Serving it in restaurants has been done to death now I think, but still a nice dessert to make at home.

I love hoppy light drinks and this session ale nailed it. Loads of hop flavor with only 4.5abv. Very drinkable. It's a different kind of beer with an out there flavor. A nice novel experience that won't get me as fucked up as that ninja vs unicorn I got last time.
