For what kind of cheese?

I've been in to sheep's milk gouda lately. Also, dry jack. Vella in CA makes a nice one, and pretty reasonable.

eh, its like new world wine. maybe a little more immature. there are lots of good american cheeses, but they tend to be expensive compared to european ones. the high quality stuff isn't made on the same scale as in europe.

American here, one who actually drinks wine
Have you ever looked up facts and not movie caricatures?
In the last SF international wine competition, which was blind, roughly 2/3 of the entries were US wines (note how the US doesn't mean "Napa napa Napa"). And roughly 2/3 of the top results per category were US wines. So American wine wins at about the same rate as anyone else

Also note that just like how Napa isn't the only place in murrica, France isn't the whole rest of the world

Hope you learned something today

There's plenty of good cheese here, much the same way we have the best and largest selection of craft beer, much the same way we have the best and largest selection of wine, sausage.

normally I'd agree with you, but the fact that it is illegal to sell cheese made from unpasteurized milk is a massive setback to cheesemaking in this country.

and you're right: the US does have some fantastic cheeses. But the majority of the cheese in our supermarkets and restaurants is shit tier. Yes we have the good stuff too but for every pound of Cato Hooligan you'll find a thousand pounds of industrially produced garbage.
