Hey /ck/, I'm travelling from europe to Atlanta and I wonder if there's any good restaurants that you guys recommend. I'll be staying at the center of downtown so anything in that area would be nice.

I haven't been to the US before so I'd like to try out some of the American stuff, like big meat and fat burgers etc.

Don't go anywhere that doesn't have numerous white people walking around. Follow the crowds to avoid criminals.

You won't survive long enough to find a restaurant. The redguards in the airport, most of the employees will be black, will spot you as a foreigner instantly and will text a pic of you to their friends and family who are outside the airport. You will then be jumped and robbed.

It would be more accurate to say that entire populations from 3rd world countries moved here and are now technically "americans". Parts of the US are as safe as Copenhagen or Seoul or Normandy, etc.

Thank you for the contribution guys.

OP, I actually live here. Atlanta is no more dangerous than any other major American city. Where will you be downtown? There isn't a lot of good restaurants in the downtown area since its mostly occupied by the University, government buildings and lower income areas.

First things first, ignore >>6788207 Underground Atlanta is a shitty tourist trap with not a worthwhile goddamn thing in it. No good restaurants, just clothing and shoe stores with cheap tourist shit everywhere. Avoid it like the plague, if you want to shop there are malls elsewhere that are great.

Here is a list of my favorite places here. First group of restaurants range from 12-35$ an entree, second group is mostly under 12$.

One Eared Stag
Murphy's
Bocado
Fontane's
Iberian Pig
Bacchanalia
Floataway Cafe
4th and Swift
South City Kitchen
Holeman and Finch
Restaurant Eugene
The Cafe at Lintons (excellent restaurant in the botanical garden, same chef as H&F and Restaurant Eugene)
Anticos Pizza
Gunshow (if you can get a reservation, forget about it on Friday/Saturday)
Miller Union
The General Muir

Cheaper but still good:
Farm Burger
Flip Burger
Little Bangkok
Pho Bac (really, any of the Viet/Chinese places on Buford Highway)
Rosas Pizza
Sun in my Belly
Deliah's Chicken Sausage Stand
The Flying Biscuit
Fox Brother's BBQ
P Reds BBQ
Heirloom BBQ

I really suggest going to the Cafe at Lintons in the Botanical Garden if you're with your family and you're looking for something to do. The food is great and the gardens have some pretty cool shit in there.

Avoid The Varsity. People will tell you its symbolic of Atlanta but it really isnt; its an overrated hotdog and hamburger place that looks like its falling apart. If you want something similar that is local and better, Palookaville Fine Foods is wonderful.

Krog Street Market or Ponce City Market are pretty cool places too. I like Krog for the selection of local beers, food is slightly overpriced. It is also located on the beltline which is a decommissioned railroad path that is used for biking/walking. Entirely possible to do a pub crawl along the beltline.

One thing you have to have before you leave Atlanta (or the South in general) is have some BBQ. I suggested a few places above but P Reds BBQ is the only one that exclusively does the Georgian version of BBQ (nearly each Southern state has their own form). Fox brothers is wonderful but its Texan. Heirloom is also good but it is run by Koreans and its essentially Korean Southern fusion, very interesting combinations like collard green kimchi.

How can anyone be so wrong? Sure there are some sketchier areas, and if you're not a dumbfuck you will avoid those places at night.

However, for the most part it is a really great city to live in. Amazing food scene, youthful population, Google Fiber coming soon, vibrant mixture of cultures. I fell in love with the city while I was at Emory and decided to make it my permanent residence. Traffic is shitty tho.

>>6788375
Can vouch for what this guy says. Holeman and Finch is amazing, Buford Highway is god-tier for basically any cuisine you could possibly want, The General Muir has a bitching pastrami sandwich and great bagels, Fox Brothers is my fav BBQ in the city (Heirloom is overpriced imo)

Some recs: Try Home Grown if you can. God-tier breakfast. Duluth has some great Korean places, whether it be for KBBQ, sundubu, or whatever. There's a great Canto restaurant in Duluth called Golden House that I love.

Cafe Intermezzo in Sandy Springs (and in Midtown) is great as well. It's a Vienna-style cafe famous for its massive "Beverage Book", with a huge selection of coffee drinks, teas, hot chocolates, aperitifs, brandies, etc. Their food is delicious as well; a particular favorite of mine is their Duck Crepes. They also offer a huge assortment of cakes and pies, and you really can't go wrong with any of them in my experience. A bit pricey and the service can often be lacking but it makes a great date spot.

-For Sushi: Taka Sushi and Passion or Shoya Izakaya.
-For Authentic Mexican: El Rey Del Taco or Taco Veloz
-For Ice Cream: MORELLI'S, or Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams; Paulo's or Honeysuckle for Gelato
-RakuRamen for real-deal Ramen
-Waikiekie Hawaiin BBQ
-Highland Bakery

The list goes on, really. Amazing eating town. And don't even get me started on the soul food

The classic pulled pork sandwich or plate is a good start. Ribs are also a BBQ classic that can make or break a joint.

No visible jewelry at all, and dress poorly, as in buy shit clothes for going outside. You can be robbed for your shirt in the south. Don't wear nice shoes either. I would also be wise to constantly and loudly praise jesus when in public, otherwise you will be identified and a homosexticle and a jew and they will mob you. also beware of the many pitbulls you will see, how you raise them has nothing to do with their behavior. They are literally the spawn of satan and they will eat your face while raping you, but so will the local bathsalt addicts. if you really must travel through the decays of society colloquially known and "the south" you should always be armed, armored, and with a team of professional shooters. You can hire a team fairly cheaply from the remnants of Blackwater who didn't get transferred over when the company re-branded. They operate out of Tennessee under the name Tactical Response.
make sure you are up to date on all your shots and your will is currant. If you are really interested in "danger zone dining" I would suggest Baghdad. Its a much better place for beginners, Atlanta is really kicking it up a notch. Even experienced DZDers tend to get gangraped and murdered in Atlanta.

Another Atlanta bro here(there are a lot of us apparently).

I'd personally avoid Fox Brothers BBQ. I don't know what happened when I went there, but it wasn't good. My brisket was gummy and over seasoned.
The best barbeque I've had in Georgia was about an hour and half north of Atlanta at Biguns Barbeque. Just south of Ellijay in a tiny town called Talking Rock, it's built into a gas station. Fucking great barbeque. Definitely worth the drive.

As other anons mentioned, The General Muir is my favorite brunch in Atlanta. Flying Biscuit is also great. Best benedict I've ever had and amazing grits. Homegrown is another great brunch/lunch spot, definitely try the Comfy Chicken. And one last great lunch/brunch spot is the Fickle Pickle in Roswell. Best fried pickles I've had.

Avoid the Varsity like the plague. Overpriced and underwhelming. Want a hot dog? Go to Cookout.

In the mood for some Vietnamese food? Cruise along Buford Highway. Lee's Bakery is my go-to. Com, which is next door to Lee's is pretty good too, but a little more expensive.

The other anons covered everything else. Have fun, Atlanta is the culinary capitol of the South. You can find every cuisine here.

This is the 2nd thread in a few days about a foreigner asking about eating in Atlanta. Seems oddly specific. Anyways....

I also live in Atlanta, but I'm a grad student at Georgia Tech, so I probably can't afford all the adventures that other locals have, but I'll add in some of my opinions:

- to me, the reason to go the the varsity or atlanta underground are simply to say that you went to "atlanta landmarks." underground is just a mall, and the varsity is just a Sonic (google if you don't have those). If you want to go to a landmark, I'd choose either the aquarium or stone mountain.

- Antico's pizza by tech is some of the best pizza i've ever had anywhere. They only serve whole pies, but if you want to try good pizza with your fam/friends, it's at the top of my list

- The vortex (especially the little 5 points one) looks kind of touristy, but they really do make good burgers, and their non-beef sandwiches are pretty good too.

- There are (at least) two excellent beer bars in town - the porter in little 5 points, and the brick store in downtown decatur. Literally hundreds of beers each. The porter has an aging room so you can try aged beers, while the brick store has the proper glassware for every beer it serves. additionally, the porter has excellent brunch, while the brick store has excellent lunch/dinner.

- i've never seen the flying biscuit cafe by the park without a line out the door.

- west egg cafe in west midtown also has excellent brunch, as well as good coffee drinks and bloody marys.

- have yet to try one, but buford highway is literally the ho chi min trail - miles upon miles of asain food.

- if you'll be in a position to cook food for yourself, get your ingredients at your dekalb farmer's market. it's really a grocery store as opposed to a traditional farmer's market, but they have more meat, fish, and produce than i've seen in one place anywhere else.

- for the best meme food, try the food truck park.
