Hey, Canadians of /ck/, a friend of mine is going to Canada for vacation. What are some top tier snacks and other food items from your neck of the woods that I can make him bring me back?

It's a well known fact that Canada is a cultural desert except Quebec.

tell him to try to find benny&co and get a chicken poutine. best on the island, hard to find though.

if you want standard poutine try to find Lafleurs, but la belle province is not too bad. better than pretty much 95% of poutine in the rest of canada.

shwartz is an iconic smoked meat place

jewish bagels

thats about all i can think of, theres so many good high end restaurants, montreal has a lot of style tryout as much as you can.

>> No.6743336

if you can find smoked maple syrup anywhere grab that up, or just smoke some yourself, shit's bomb as fuck, forreal

all-dressed chips

>> No.6744413

1. Various Canadian flavors of potato chips. I recommend you at least get a box of Old Dutch Ketchup and a box of Old Dutch Dill. Not the kettle-chip kind, the normal kind. Ruffles All Dressed is also A+++

2. Coffee Crisp

3. Beers/liquors, obvs

4. Canada Dry gingerale. Save it for the next time you get the flu.

5. KD. It's noticeably different/better than the Kraft Macaroni & Cheese available in America.

6. Habitant split pea & ham soup in the giant can

7. Mott's Clamato so that you can make Caesars, which are infinitely better than Bloody Marys because clam

maple syrup & smoked salmon are Canadian favs but surely you can get them in America too? and you can make poutine gravy easily from scratch, that's nbd

you can also get a lot of import British stuff up here, like Jaffa Cakes and Branston Pickle, if you can't find that stuff back home.

>> No.6744417

>>6743510

oh shit yeah also 8. Smarties smarties are fucking great

Also ketchup flavored potato chips were better than expected. And an obvious choice.

Check the Fas Gas general store slash restaurant in Beaver Creek YT. They had nanaimo bars last time I was there. You might want to call ahead, it's a bit of a drive from Montreal.

I was told nanaimo bars are common enough in new england, so maybe OP is eating one now. I certainly haven't seen one west of the Rockies, though. Except in Canadia.

>> No.6744642

>>6744413

Fellow canadian here, I like your taste, coffee crisp is best chocolate bar, habitant is best canned soup brand.

If I had to pick up a hard to find ingredient on a trip to canada I'd say go tell your friend to find some birtch tree syrup, its better then maple syrup but costs a lot more, but I've never seen it in the states.

>> No.6745260

>>6744565

just make them. nanaimo bars are simple to cook and they aren't a brand-name item with a really specific flavor. surely an American can figure out chocolate+icing+brownie

>> No.6745266

God damn retards in this thread can't read OP asked for SNACKS how friend can bring back for him.

Fuck Canadian education must be shit with the amount of retards posting.
