People don't. Ideally most red wine is served just under room temperature, and lighter reds are often served colder than that. Try a chilled Beaujolais-Villages or zweigelt. Fucking delicious.

It's similar to how people think beer should be ice ice cold, when it should really just be pretty cold. Ice ice cold and you can't really taste the beer completely. Red wine should be chilled but not as cold as beer should be.

I do like light German whites ( ok gonna hear a bunch of shit ) cold, Liebfraumilch, Riesling, with seafood. and Rose, (reunite on ice, like lancers, cold duck or chammpiple ( combine cheap cold duck and ripple.. I coming for you..) And most eye ties only ship Chianti when only fit to wash pigs. I like Merlot, or even mead or .. unlikely source, but Kingfisher. Most red wines you want a little under room temperature. A good rule thumb is take white wine out of the fridge 20 minutes before serving and put red wine in 20 minutes before serving.

The exception would be a syrah/shiraz which needs to be room temp to appreciate.
