I'm going for a meal with family tomorrow and plan to get a steak. I usually have it medium rare but want to try rare.

Is it any good?

>> No.6553444

Depends on the quality and cut of steak.

We're likely gonna be going to a chain restaurant. Should I stick with medium rare? Can I get food poisoning from rare if the cut of steak isn't good?

Depends on cut and quality

You should probably just get the special and order it well done

>> No.6553451

depends on the cut, some steaks really benefit from rendering out the fat and should be cooked past rare, like a rib eye

I wouldn't order a heavily marbled steak rare, but something like a fillet or strip would be fine

Rare is no worse than medium rare for food poisoning. It doesn't get hot enough inside to kill any bugs with medium rare.

Generally speaking you aren't going to get food poisoning from a steak. You get food poisoning from somebody cross contaminating, like getting raw chicken juice on your salad.

>> No.6554552

I like to eat your family as rare as possible. Come over to my appartment.

>> No.6554560

I like my pepe steak rare.

If the outside of your steak is cooked, it can be completely red throughout the rest of it and you'll be no more likely to get poisoned from it than if it were completely brown. Beef isn't chicken.

That said, chain restaurants are a bit of a crapshoot. If I ask for rare I get blue, if I ask for medium rare I get well done. Sending it back usually does fuck all except make the staff pissed off at you, because it's real fucking hard to cook a steak properly I guess even though I manage it fine even while drunk off my ass

Stick with med-rare. In fact if it was me i'd go with medium. Every time i've ordered med-rare in a chain restaurant it's been fully red inside with a tepid centre.

A chain restaurant probably won't even serve you rare. Just ask for it and they'll give you an actual medium rare

Why bother?

I stopped asking for beef in restaurant because I order it well done. The waiter always criticize my choice or give me that weird look right after I say it. Even joking sometimes about my 'shoe leather'.

That's how life is in france

waiters should learn to shut the fuck up tbh

worked in a kitchen and they are extremely butthurt and judgemental to their customers' demands

>> No.6555659

>>6555646

to be fair I work in a kitchen and we make fun of customers' retarded demands too, just as we make fun of the waitstaff for being retarded

I've worked FoH though and never was anything but polite to people. It's your fucking job to be polite, how fucking hard is it?

I live in California so we get a lot of retarded requests.

>I am allergic to powdered garlic and onion but fresh is okay
>"is there gluten in the soup? Oh it's ok to use normal bread on the sandwich though, I'm just cutting back on gluten"
>do you have any gluten-free, vegan creme brulee? (yes, this actually happened last week)

Customers do have retarded demands though.

There is a menu. This is not your fridge.

You'd be surprised how often I get asked for a few ingredients, to-go. Is it that hard to find a grocer?!

that is pretty retarded

I remember time some waiters made a big deal out of two people wanting to split one order, because it's a pretty large serving. Those were the sort of things I had to listen to

>> No.6555707

>>6555694

At least you don't have to deal with their bullshit in the kitchen.

Yesterday at about 3:30pm we get a call for 3 fresh-made blackberry pies and they want to pick them up at 6:30. I was on pantry and we didn't even have fucking blackberries so we have to call our vendor and have them bring them over right away, meanwhile I'm trying to make 3 fucking pies during dinner rush on a Saturday night.

I'm going to kill the fucking hostess for putting that order through.

Watched my exec scream at a server because they had a guest that was clearly a hypochondriac.

He lost it when she said allergic to rice.

Oh look everyone it's op the super special snowflake that eats 'rare' steaks, why don't you just order a regular steak faggot

That is a regular steak. In fact, it's the closest to a steak is in it's natural form, not counting tartare.

Last night we had a party of 18 and 13 of them wanted separate checks, so I just had a million fucking tickets all over the place for mostly individual orders.

At this point I think I've heard people say they were allergic to just about everything.

I have- and I'm completely serious here- had a customer say they were allergic to toasted bread, but regular bread is fine.

Another separate example someone said they couldn't eat white bread because they were 'gluten intolerant' but whole wheat was fine.

The only bread we serve is brioche.

We have a couple who comes in very regularly who wants all of their food either boiled or cooked in foil in the oven. This is because they think that any mallard browning causes cancer, as does anything that is microwaved.

You shouldn't get food poisoning from eating anything raw, stop being a pussy.

Unless you have no immune system like that one kid that lives in a bubble you'll be fine.
