9th Round of the 2015 Challenge!

This round is an elimination round.

We must now say good-bye to GHobo !HrKSCSXHa2 and Chalice !!a7Six4EVOK+. Thank you for playing and don't hesitate to post along for the fun of it during the rest of the challenge!

Here's the list of those who made the top 7!

Lavi !zXeFjI1hKc
fantastic !/thrViR13Y
quaff !APT0oioJvY
Spork !gVOKCoJgwg
Ciabatta !Wur2iJ/O4M

Regular rules (timestamps and identifiers) still apply.

Please read the voting guidelines below. This round will go until May 5th.

**

VOTING GUIDELINES

Voting follows an 'Iron Chef' style scoring system. This means you, the people of /ck/, will judge each entry individually instead of deciding on what you feel is the "best" dish.

Dishes are scored out of a total 20 points, based on 4 categories (worth a maximum of 5 points each); Presentation, Originality, Appeal and Challenge Goals. You may award 0's if you feel the contestant did not meet your expectations for a category.

-Presentation: The appearance of items on the plate; plating skills
-Originality: Creativity in composing the dish
-Appeal: How appetizing the food looks/whether or not the dish appeals to your personal taste as a voter
-Challenge Goals: How closely the entry followed the challenge goal(s)

The distinction between Presentation and Appeal: If someone submits an artfully arranged but burnt steak as an entry, it may score high in Presentation but low in Appeal.

>> No.6460957

The theme of Round Nine is...

"Bone-in"!

Your dish must include a bone. Preferably a bone-in piece of meat.

While you're perfectly welcome to make a large spread of food, please make sure there is clearly a "main dish" because that is what people will be voting on.

One persons will be eliminated after this round. Then the Top 4 will face off in the the grand finale!

Whenever I see "her", "she", "my girlfriend" or "my boyfriend" on this board, it makes me want to hurt something. And I do mean some THING. Something that isn't human, if you know what I mean.

Gash beasts are literally the worst thing god (who doesn't exist) ever inflicted on huMAN kind. Worse than reddit, vegetarians, and the new sriracha combined.

Alright guys, here it is - pan-fried pork chop, chili-garlic aubergine, and rice. All came together nicely. The meat was really good and moist, wasn't overcooked as is easy to do with pork - the cuts in the fat also helped it not to curl up in the pan (and it looks cool too, always a plus). The aubergines are something I always like to do, and over time I've developed a couple tweaks to the recipe - for example, I chop them into little cuboid-let chunks instead of long strips, which helps them not soak up stupid amounts of soy sauce. The rice was really nice and fluffy, not like a lot of rice turns out where it's grainy and bland but instead light and just sticky enough.

All in all, a fairly ordinary dish made up of things I do a lot, but it all worked out really nicely and complemented each other and I was very happy with it.

I really screwed the pooch on timings this week and then got taken out for dinner last minute today, so I haven't had a single meal I could honestly submit. Genuinely sorry to flake on the penultimate round like this - I would have conceded earlier so maybe GHobo or Chalice could have had an entry, but I really thought I'd get to cook today. For what it's worth, it was going to be chicken too.

Good luck to everyone else, I'll go through and rate now.

What's wrong with that? Some presentations are more artful than others.

I'm finding it hard to differentiate on "challenge goals" this year, since the challenges have been so specific. I mean, if something has a bone in it, how do I score it as other than a 5? If it fails to have a bone in it, how do I score it as other than a 0?

I'm just asspained about the guy who gave me a 2 for presentation tbh. Personally thought mine would win in that category. He also gave me a 4 for challenge goals while giving everyone else a 5. Completely nonsensical.

I always thought of "challenge goals" as a free 5 points if you did what was asked. Prevents people from submitting irrelevant shit.

>> No.6481273

Relax, of all 4 scores, presentation has always been the most subjective, it happens, as long as the others scores are fine, it should be clear that it's mostly because of personal tastes rather than just being a dick.

Also I loved how the spanish chorizo looks in that picture.

>> No.6481993

>I always thought of "challenge goals" as a free 5 points if you did what was asked

Previous years had more subjectiveness in the challenge goals -- there was room to interpret how well the person accomplished the challenge. At least, that's my memory of them.

>we had much better challenge goals when I was your age
