What non-standard kitchen appliances do you swear by?

In other words, what kitchen appliance that not everyone uses justifies the room it takes up, whether they be from infomercials or randomly picked up.

Pic related as an example

I have a standalone induction cooktop too, a Duxtop that I got on Amazon for $70.

It's probably the one "gimmick" appliance that's not a gimmick. I prefer using it to my gas range.

Induction cooktops are popular around Asia. Firsttime I tried one I knew I had to get one for myself. I have a portable one like in OP's picture, but the stupid heat sensor prevents me from heating up my pan past 500 Fahrenheit.

i have one of these, plus a mini oven and grill. bought them when my normie cooker broke years ago, have continued using them ever since. uses masses less electricity and space, costs fuck all and is at least as good as any cooker i've owned.
also have mandoline, that's probably unusual but it's the only way to slice things ultra-thin, i make sauerkraut with it. oh and a dehydrator, which i fill with fruits once a week, dry them out and nom them as snacks. also have a burger press, which is good because hand-formed burgers always have little stringy edges which burn. i have a yogurt fermenter too which is pretty good. erm, what else, iuno, nothing unusual i don't think.

Anyway, a breville juicer and a soda stream. I freeze fresh fruit and vegetable juices into ice cubes and add them to sparkling water. This probably accounts for 30% of my diet so they're pretty indispensable.

Also a mandoline with different blades and inserts. Makes prepping vegetables for the freezer easy breezy

you say that like it's a good thing.

How the fuck do you expect to be able to use a reasonably sized pot on it, or for it to have suitable heat output if it's compact and plugs into a normal wall outlet?

>> No.6446429

>>6446410
>reasonably sized pot on it

I meant thin rather than small. And I think those things can get up to 450 F on a normal wall outlet.

I'm pretty ignorant of induction cooking, though. At the moment I have the coiled electric range thing and am movinginto a place in about four months that has gas, but that burner may be better than either... just don't know.

Cleaning my waffle iron takes longer than cooking the damn things. So I've got to ask, is it even possible to do it quickly?

>> No.6446492

>>6446449

The solution I've come across is not to overfill it with batter. The problem comes from the uncooked batter that leaks down the sides.

I just pour it into the middle, spatula it around a little, and when I remove the waffle, it's as if nothing was ever in it.

So try using less batter - you might end up with more of a star shape until you perfect it.

just a mirowave, toaster, cheap fridge/ frezzer and mr coffee drip . I know shoudn't have too much stored and insurance company would have paid but really was not that bad compared to others. usaa .not endorsed or paid, just good

>> No.6446553

>And I think those things can get up to 450 F on a normal wall outlet.

Meaningless. A cigarette lighter or match flame can easily exceed 1000F but it's pretty useless for cooking. The temperature is meaningless, what matters is its power output which you would measure in units like BTU or wattts/hour. Because the typical north american wall socket is limited to 120V 15A, the most power you'll ever see is around 1500-1800 watts, which is frankly shite. It'd be OK for warming a sauce or something. It would suck for actual cooking.

Gas is king.

It's no deep fryer replacement, but I use this thing non-stop. It's great for cooking ground meat. If you buy precooked frozen foods, it does well, you just aren't able to do much at once, it'll turn to mush if you try.

On the rare (once every three years) occasion that I deep fry something, I use mine. Gets the oil to 400 F in no time. The thing about heat is that it's transferable. I know what you're saying, I thought it was going to suck for cooking, but it really doesn't.

I don't care what facts you want to dispute, if you haven't tried it, your opinion is moot.
