I've always been told that if you need ketchup to eat a steak, it means one of two things.

1) You're a picky faggot and you're disregarding the person who made the steak by masking the flavor.
2) The steak is utter shit that you absolutely need something to give some type of taste.

Oddly enough, any type of condiment on a steak rubs me the wrong way, but ketchup is just a fucking insult.

You dumb fuck the reason rare steak tastes good is because that's how we evolved to enjoy meat. Raw meat was too indigestible and bacteria ridden which is why evolution pushed us towards enjoying seared meat. Our taste buds have literally evolved to enjoy the taste of charred meat. But cavemen didn't bother searing the shit out of a piece of meat until it was well done (that's why well done meat tastes like shit), all they needed to do was sear the outside until it had a nice char. That killed the bacteria and ensured it was safe to eat, while maintaining some level of juiciness and moisture. Think about that the next time you eat your leathery nasty well done steak.

I had a roommate in college that liked ribeyes cooked well, with ketchup (or catsup, pardon moi) used to kill me (like mine medium rare, often order rare since most places over cook) but I understand. Some people dislike blood on the plate. I hate "rare" duck or chicken, cow, deer, or hog liver that is "just a bit pink in the middle".Not me. fried hard, with onions. I like lamb or mutton, (many in my family hate it) but again, pretty well done Just a preference.I like del monte ketchup. or heinz, or store brand Matters not that much.
