near xmas everybody gets tips. Last week before xmas walked out and gave the 3 garbage guys a Ten bill each, left the usual $20 in an envelope on the mailbox for the mailman. I used to give a tip to the meter reader but they installed wireless crap on them so they could fire them. I tip at restaurants. I understand the purpose of tipping, and I don't have a problem with that "system".

But, if they're not providing table service or driving the food to my home, fuck that. I'm not tipping someone at a counter or drive-through unless they do something heroic for me.

It's been years since I moved to the US from Japan for school. I always feel reluctant to tip at restaurants and most of the time I only do it because I don't want my friends to think I'm a cheap ass. I don't understand why it's almost a requirement to leave a tip here.

Back home I would only leave "tips" at local family owned places I regularly go to and personally know the owner.
