Just bought this.
What's the best way to drink Brandy. I'm more of a cognac and whiskey man, and I drink those with ice or sometimes neat. Should I do the same with this?

>> No.6282415

It really doesn't matter. You could wrap the bottle in a paper bag and drink it straight out of there because that brandy is shit.

Yeah, I know nothing about brandy, but I always mix my E&J with coke. Bretty gud

E&J VSOP is crazy sweet. Like legit syrupy. It's amazing to me that it can be that sweet without added sugar. Drinking it on the rocks will cut back on some of the cloying sweetness.

E&J VS is damned good stuff though. Highly respected spirits expert Paul Poucolt rated it 4/5
and says it is superior to every VS cognac on the market. I basically agree with him.

I drink E&J VS pretty often. Pic related. I'll do a side by side taste test of a few other brandies next week and post a thread here.

OP here. It seems like that would be the way to go. Rum and vodka I mix because they taste like shit. Gin also. Just sipped a little and yeah mixing would be the best way to go.

Despite what the namefag said, and I guess some spirit expert who I've never heard of, I think that stuff is terrible, but I bet if you put it in a sidecar it would be drinkable

2 parts brandy
1 part cointreau
1 part fresh lemon juice
shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass

>cognac on ice

Do you know how I know you're doing it wrong?

E&J is garbage, spend the extra $5 on some Raynal.

Grand marnier is too syrupy for me and doesn't provide enough contrast, but either is fine, I guess.

I suppose you could use a little more lemon to make up for the grand marnier if it means that much to only use "cognac based" spirits

But E&J isn't cognac. Whether it's garbage or not (and it is) had nothing to do with my post

Try making a grand marnier with Domain Canton instead of grand marnier or cointreau sometime. I'm pretty sure I invented that drink. I garnished it with some homemade gari.

It's good. Xeres brandy delivers greatness for chump change, you should be all over it.

Paul Masson Grande Amber is a decent American brandy, and is about the same price as the E&J.

The Raynal is really good though, and it's not much more. American brandies just lack something.

I really like it, but have to admit that it grew on me. I wasn't the biggest fan at first. It has a very raisinesque flavor, but is very smooth. I often start off with it, move onto the Remy, and finish up with the Raynal if I'm getting loaded.

Armagnac is really good too.

VSOP you can drink neat or on ice, but it's fucking great in cocktails.

brandy and cherry coke with lime and a cherry is awesome as fuck

brandy alexander is the ultimate panty dropper

brandy old fashioned

Metropolitan

sidecar is fucking amazing

I will say that my usual is to sip brandy neat and drink a strong ale with it

Brandy is to cognac and armagnac what sparkling wine is to champagne.

Usually, good brandy or cognac is drank neat in a brandy snifter and warmed with the heat from your hand.

E&J VSOP is ok brandy. It's not good brandy, though, and it's not much better than the E&J VS. Honestly I doubt I could tell the difference.

If it were me I'd use it for making mulled wine or mint juleps.
