Not the case. I'm 21 and eat nothing but healthy, often times people look at what I buy and accuse me of having expensive tastes and spending too much on too little. Yet when three weeks has gone by, I'm apt to have spent under a hundred, while they've had 2 or 3 100$+ visits to the grocery store.

My diet is restrictive, minimal. I'm broke for other reasons and starve at times, but good food is affordable to all ages. One needs not a fixed income to manage or better.

Also I recently became vegetarian and I like to see new ways to cook vegetables and beans and such that I haven't heard of before.

It isn't "tougher" or "leaner", if you try to quantify it like that. But it is different, and it does taste much better. Remember, cows graze on fields all day long, and ideally, are rotated as well. Even in fields of massive size, they can easily chew them down to the shortness of a mowed lawn.

Their digestion is made for this. It isn't anywhere near as inefficient as ours, but it's much more selective. They can easily build up proper triglycerides and adipose stores if they're just let loose in a field. Grains on the other hand screw with their stomach pH and multiple bodily process, lead to chronic infections, and generally reduce overall health. Couple that with putting them inside and in close proximity, you need antibiotics. Most of the corn and soy that's grown goes to livestock, and it is of an utter garbage quality and pesticide laden all to fuck because yield is all that matters for profit margins in this sector.

You're not doing yourself any favors eating something that lived its entire life half dead. You're not buying a luxury, you're buying food. What you've come to know as food is anything but, as far as I'm concerned. Luckily in my case there are places locally that sell grass fed beef and beefalo for ~$6/lb. I don't eat either anymore for a few reasons (not all ideological), but the availability is nice.

I'm 59. I have been reading on /ck/ for a year or two now because I specifically searched "food & cooking" on Google. It was a bit confusing at first, but anybody who's not a nitwit can figure out the basic rules around here. I've perused a few of the other boards that piqued my interest, but cooking and gardening are really my only hobbies so I spend most of my time online here.

I'm 82 years old and I don't have the slightest interest in cooking. I'm sure that when I get defrosted from my rapidly-approaching cryogenic slumber, Soylent (or a soylent-type product) will have replaced the need for cooking anyway. I'm also sure that there's going to be virtual food simulation programs, so people can still "eat" whatever they fancy. In the meantime, I can still post in the Joey threads and come with new, grotesque ways to serve instant ramen.
