Hello friends what is the best trappist ale? I want to buy a gift for my mom and she is way into them. Thanks homies.

My favorite. Gets better with age so if look at the bottle dates every now and then you'll find a real treat with one that's been sitting for a while

American Trappist ale.

Its very good and supports a good cause. Its pricey, but its legit trappist ale made by monks in Massachusetts.

In Belgian beer culture every beer is drank from its own particular glass. It's not so much contrarian as traditional. Glassware matters. When you drink a beer from its own glass, you allow the brewery to take an extra step to influence the drinking process by providing its own aesthetic, presentation, hand and mouth feel et cetera, which allows them to present their product exactly as intended.

Of course you can drink it from a mason jar if you want, but if someone asks about what Trappist ales are drunk from I wouldn't say a jar just because I've had some from a jar before.

Well, you could do better. Different beers are served in different type of glasses not merely for presentation (which is in itself extremely important and influences the whole experience), but also for reasons of flavour, head maintenance, carbonation et cetera.

Having a few of the proper glasses for your favourites on hand goes a long way.

This is a concept that flys over the heads of so many people. Especially on /ck/ people get so offended when you pay extra money for something just because it looks nice. Whether it be a nice chinese gaiwan, or a nice coffee kettle or a chemex. Yes, a huge part of the appeal is the aesthetics but there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Indeed. Especially since presentation literally alters how things taste, that's how powerful it is in influencing your mind.

That's why professional tasters use pic related and that's also why distillers add caramel to their whisky.

>>6045135
I guess a chalice, a tulip, a pint glass and a pilsner glass go a long way. Maybe a weizen glass if you drink a lot of those.

That sucks, bro

I used to be a heavy problem drinker, not really alcoholic. I worked down to just drinking Friday and Saturday nights, 7 drinks each. Puts you in a 'moderate risk' category and my health is much improved. I love alcohol.

>> No.6049424

>>6049373
Yea, I've tried moderating myself but always wind up right back at blacking out every night. I was drinking 3 handles of vodka, 3 20 packs of shitty beer, and various 750ml bottles of better (and higher abv) beer per week, give or take a little. My little brother even started brewing his own beer which I've never had.

I think I could manage ok for a little while but inevitably I'd be back to locking myself in my house getting shitfaced all the time.
