/ck/ opinion on Gordon Ramsay?

I've never tried his food so I don't know.

But I think his assholish behaviour is a persona used to draw in viewers

He is a lot more asshole-ish in the American versions of his shows. If you watch the British versions, he actually comes off as a rather nice guy, but rather intense and still swears a lot.

>> No.5710771

awful caricature of the industry that makes daily life harder for anyone actually in a chef position.

Read both of his autobiographies. Ate at his 2m star joint and his other places in NYC and London. Seen about all of his TV shows:
Boiling point
Beyond boiling
Trouble at the top (watch him totally not flip out when his second best chef sends him a raw pork dish to taste. It is on YouTube.)
All seasons and episodes of:
UK and us hells kitchen
UK and us kitchen nightmares
Cookery course
UK's best restaurant
F word

I also have about six of his cookbooks. I know about twenty of his recipe by heart.

A few to years ago, I emailed his uk office asking for a publicity photo. They sent me one - autographed - and it now hangs under glass in my kitchen.

I guess he's alright.

Oh also hotel hell.

And he's the reason I bought classic ikon knives (they feel best in my hands anyway, no regrets) and a brietling watch.

Anyway, if you read his auto biography, humble pie, you will very clearly understand why he is the way he is and why it's not really an act. He had a hellish childhood.

I've been reading about him. Apparently he's not as perfect as he wants you to see, of course, those Scots. He has chin surgery annually because his chin is a pig snout. He cried when he lost a Michelin star at one of his restaurants. Hired a guy to steal a places booking book thing and tried to blame it on the guy who taught him how to cook and said the motivation was jealousy.

He's still cool and I'll keep watching his shows, but crying? Really?

Blackberry or whatever? Saw one where this black mama and her mother ran a business and he walks in to find a dead mouse behind the door. The owners fiancee/husband says he thinks Gordon planted it there.

So, what? He probably has his teeth whitened. Being on TV and all.

>He cried when he lost a Michelin star at one of his restaurants.

So he's... human? Other chefs have committed suicide because of the threat of losing a star.

>Hired a guy to steal a places booking book

No, actually he stole it himself. And each day he faxed them the bookings for that day. The restaurant in question, Harvey's, was screwing him over and was well deserved.

Had a friend who talked to him during his promo-appearance and dinner event when he was in Auckland. Apparently, Fox TV execs wanted him to ham it up as much as possible and then gave it a double dose of shouty-McSwearsalot during the cutting and editing of the footage.

>>5711230
Think it was Blackberry. It could be planted but then again, you can hear the staff discuss the other dead mouse they found before Ramsay and the film crew showed up.

I dont watch Hells Kitchen anymore but when I did I think I completed at least season 1

what I remember was he told the people who won the competition his aspiration in life was to be apart of the UK futbol team and he's surprisingly really good at futbol.

The other thing I remember from Kitchen Nightmares was when Gordon went to Australia and the fucking senile 98 year old bitch pulled a shotgun out of her car and told Ramsey to fuck right off he wasn't touching her restaurant

despite the fact they were $150,000 in debt

<--- Lets not forget this bitch now. She will forever be in infamy

"The heat of the celebrity kitchen has long provided fuel for some fiery professional rivalries.
None more so than the simmering tension between Gordon Ramsay and his one-time mentor Marco Pierre White.
So when a scooter-riding raider made off with his precious restaurant reservations book and Ramsay pointed the finger at London rival White it was to ignite one of the most intriguing mysteries of the culinary world.
Was it just another spat between the equally hot-headed duo, or was there a genuine case of criminal rivalry?
The answer, so it seems, is neither.
For some nine years later it has emerged that it was all an elaborate trick dreamed up by Ramsay, fearing he was about to be deposed at his Michelin starred Chelsea restaurant Aubergine by White.
Ramsay admitted to organising the raid in an interview with the New Yorker magazine, describing his ruse as a "stroke of genius"."

Fucking this.

If you look up the winners of Hells Kitchen USA, I think only 1 winner was actually ever given the job that was advertised as the prize. The rest were given a worse job, or nothing at all. Also if you watch episodes back-to-back, its so obvious that every episode is almost identical. The way each challenge goes, the way it is laid out, all too similar to appear in any way genuine. In episode 1 of season 8 and season 9, someone collapses and has to be rushed to hospital and cant continue in the competition, a bit too much of a coincidence in my eyes, and clearly scripted.

Restaurant Gordon Ramsay on Royal Hospital Road however, is impeccable. By far the most memorable dining experience I've ever had. Well deserving of its 3 stars. And I enjoy a lot of his UK tv programs, which seem a little less scripted

In his US shows he's really acting for viewers. The fact he's great at it really makes me respect him more (the guy can act, too!). In his UK shows he's great. He really does care and knows his shit when it comes to making food biz succeed. When I was a shitty angsty teen that had no interest in cooking his "viewer-catching" persona hooked me in and gave me the love of cooking and appreciation of good food that I have today. He's not my number 1 idol, but I am very grateful for his presence.
