if youve ever had questions for your deliveryman but were afraid to ask ama
i dont work for sysco but do pretty much the same thing

How do you boil the sin out of hooker meat without it losing its flavor?

>> No.5569463

Does you have any control over the freshness and quality of (especially produce,) items that you deliver? Also, what things piss you off about delivering to certain restaurants.

i just deliver the shit
i dont cook it
but i heard you can blanch it with a white wine reduction

why the fuck would I have a question for someone who has had the misfortune to end up in one of the least interesting jobs in the the food supply chain?

>> No.5569474

>>5569463
not really
the most i can do is keep the back of the trailer as cold as possible and try not to nibble on the nonsealed boxes of produce i deliver
pet peeves include but not limited to:
when i deliver to a new place and i come in and ask them where they want me to put the stuff and then they ask me if this is my first time here and im just like obviously otherwise i wouldnt be asking and then they ask me why im rude and then i say it was a silly question
sorry i got mad for a sec

Sometimes I make my delivery drivers free food. I'm a nice guy.

there are several factors
maybe your stop got changed to the last stop of the route or something like that
trust me, 99.9% of all deliveryfags are going as fast as they can all day long to get the shit off the truck and go home
>>5569467
funny, i would say the same thing about standing in a kitchen making the same dishes over and over again
if you made deliveries i assure you youd find that every day is an adventure

are you fat like most of the truckers I see at TA or Pilot?

I drive a truck every now and then and I always hate going to truck stops. They're very depressing.

>> No.5569488

>>5569474
are you a dick to them? they work in a restaurant, it gets stressful. I deal with lots of truck drivers, 99% are bro as fuck and some of my favorite people to deal with. Don't be a dick anon.

>> No.5569491

>>5569482
dude thats awesome and everybody who you do that for appreciates it greatly
sometimes we dont even get a chance to stop
and eat
not to mention the fact i usually give special treatment to the stops that feed or give me something to drink
the only rest i get is driving less than a mile or so to the next stop and then its back to work

>> No.5569493

>>5569488
>99% are bro as fuck and some of my favorite people to deal with
all they do is talk and talk about pointless shit and terrible stories like they been crafting it the entire drive that day.

>>5569486
the fat truckers do long hauls and probably don't unload the truck themselves. food and beverage drivers usually have a handful of deliveries daily over short distances and they have to unload the truck themselves, I don't think I've seen a fat one.

do they have a willcall at the warehouse? send the dishwasher or something
>>5569486
i could lose a few pounds but this job generally keeps me in good shape
if you dont know, then my day consists of lifting heavy boxes and then running up and down a ramp dozens upon dozens of times a day
id say i spend maybe an hour or two at the most behind the wheel per day
>>5569488
just when they ask me if its my first time being there when i just asked them where they want me to put the stuff
im normally neutral i guess but ill chat a little bit with whoever wants to chat
i do try and be friendly because i dont want to ruin my chances of free food or drink

>> No.5569505

>>5569499
you put down the ramp for every stop?

furniture delivery here, sometimes for small stops it's not even worth the time. then again your stops are probably more consistently sized?

also, if you're using a ramp, why the fuck are you lifting the boxes? put that shit on a dolly to save time and energy

>> No.5569512

ive got a dolly with brakes on it

the thing is five hundred bucks so i guess it should lol
how do you like doing you deliveries?
do you have to put it in the house where they want it?

I can confirm this.

Delivery/repair/whatever guys constantly make comments to me in passing like, "another wonderful day in the kitchen".

>how do you like doing you deliveries?
fucking loved that job (no longer there anymore, moved on because reasons). kept me in great shape and paid well.

>do you have to put it in the house where they want it?
gotta do basically anything they ask. move old furniture to a new room, put returns back on the truck, assemble tables and bed frames, all that good shit. i'll say one thing about rooms-to-go, they have some ridiculously good customer service.

the trailer we offloaded from didn't even have a ramp. straight off the truck onto your shoulder, into the house. unless it was something that was easier to stack on a dolly, like multiple boxes.

man i need to get another job like that one.

>>5569499
well not everyone knows where everything is supposed to go. I usually deal with the truck drivers because i've got the layout memorized and am one of maybe three people that knows where things go and the best place to drop it off.

the ones asking you that are probably newly hired nogs that happen to be there when you walk in the door, they don't know shit or have a clue where things belong.

Being somewhat in shape is much more common than being fat.

were you a cdl driver?
with a cdl and a clean license, you will never be out of work
whyd you leave?
>>5569528
usually when i come in to ask where everything goes its because im doing a new route which means im probably behind schedule so i guess i have to be extra careful to be non rude but for some reason that just sets me off
what are your deliveryfag pet peeves?

>>5569543
>were you a cdl driver?
i was the helper. the other guy drove the truck. shit i don't even have a license right now.

>whyd you leave
i left because he quit his job. rooms-to-go contracts their drivers, so you only have a job as long as the driver you're working with sticks around. literally the only bad thing, not much job security unless the company actually employs their delivery people.

i saw a undercover boss type thing on that and it looked kinda cool but at the same time kinda shitty

i worked for the guy who drove the truck. he "worked" for rooms-to-go (he was actually a contractor, but for all intents and purposes, he worked for them- just had to do his own taxes and shit as if he was a business).

as far as how good the job is, it's pretty much as good as your boss, so long as you're willing to put in the work. my boss was a total bro, so my job was great.

Blanching is a way of pre-cooking veggies in less than boiling, salted water. I't makes green things greener, and allows you to saute them (or whatever) real quick.

Poaching is a way of cooking things in a less than smmering, flavorful liquid. It's usually used for delicate foods, and adds lots of flavor in the cooking process.

>>5569570
o ok cool
that show made me tired from just watching it
in the show there was always the possibility of something going wrong and the driver not making any money off of the trip, and therefore his helpers also not making any money
did that ever happen to you guys?

>> No.5569616

>>5569596
>did that ever happen to you guys?
well i never got stiffed by my boss, and i'm fairly sure that he never made less than his expenses.

basically the driver makes a percentage of each piece on the truck that gets delivered that day (so it's in his best interest to make all deliveries at all costs, as fast as possible).

but he also has plenty of expenses. gotta fill the truck up with gas, gotta pay the help, gotta pay truck rental fees if you don't own your truck, insurance, all that good shit.

so, say we get a small day (5-6 small stops), he might not make his money back. or if they don't have work for him every day. those times are the worse for him (as the helper, i got paid a flat rate and he never stiffed me).

conversely, some days you might have 2 trailers to deliver, which could take 12-15 hours. he makes bank that day (and i get paid 1.5-2 times as much because i get paid by the trailer), which can make up for a slow day. so basically, for the driver, the busy weeks are ideal, since they make much more money. but for the help, slow days are great because you get paid the same amount for working 4 hours as you would for working 12 hours.

much better than hourly at any rate. do you get paid hourly or daily? because i know getting paid daily is some great incentive to bust ass and get done early.

>> No.5570833

>>5569616
i get paid hourly with bonuses depending on how many cases per hour i deliver
made 57k last year and pay 40 per month in insurance so its not a bad gig
do you get benefits?
getting paid cash daily sounds fucking awesome as far as dealing with your finances go
i get paid every 2 weeks so its hard to gauge how much discretionary income to spend
yeah same here, busting ass and getting done early is a must as they randomly look at my clock to see if im milking it or not
