So watching a movie today I discovered this thing Americans called funnel cake. I want to try it, but google gives me lots of different recipes. Some even include butter and others don't.

Which is THE recipe for this, /ck/?

You should fry it in pork or beef fat. Dead serious.

Funnel cake is mostly something you get at county/state fairs and things like that. I haven't met very many people who have made it at home. I've seen kits for it at stores occasionally but I have no idea how good they are.

Not a problem, I make churros and tortas fritas in fat all the time.

>>5569015
Yes, I got that from my googling, but that's not gonna happen in my country, and I want to try them.

The trick is to prep your oil by throwing a few ice cubes in it. This really let's the funnel cake get a fucking delicious texture. & add a lot of powered sugar too

>tfw remembering when Jack in The Box used to sell mini funnel cake

I used to get them all the time. Now I have to wait for fairs and shit.

>> No.5569260

It's basically a thin pancake batter that is poured into the oil a certain way and fried so recipe is up to your preference. I'd probably go with a recipe that doesn't have butter in because I feel like that'd make it too rich but considering it's fried batter you might as well go for it and be full on fatty for the authentic 'merica experience

Make a crepe batter, put it in a squeeze bottle of some sort. Get a pot of oil hot enough to deep fry anything you want. Squeeze your crepe batter into the hot oil in a huge squiggly mess like the picture you posted.
Once it's golden brown you just cover it in whatever toppings you like.

OP, you THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.

Also, where are you from that you've never had funnel cake (obv. outside US but just curious)? Funnel cake is my absolute all-time favorite fair/sporting event food.

Funnel cake is GOD DAMN DELICIOUS. I hope you make it OP.

I'm from Argentina! When I saw the funnel cakes in the movie I thought they wuld be somethiing more similar to our tortas fritas (see pic) but googling tells me it's more like pancake/creppe batter, and anons confimerd. I'm definitely making them this weekend.

Not just a few ice cubes, mind you. You want a hot oil, to ice ratio of about 4 to 1.

please don't do the ice cube thing. please. it will hurt you.
funnel cakes are great. they make a bit of a mess in a home kitchen, but hot damn they're so tasty. one of the easiest ways to deal with them is to get a large squeeze bottle and cut the tip off so it's about 1/4 inch or .5 cm in diameter. put the batter in that and squeeze into the hot oil. remember to flip the funnel cake, and keep a thermometer to make sure the temperature is right. there's nothing better than a light fluffy funnelcake, but there's also nothing worse than an oil soaked or burnt lopsided wad of dough that can result if you don't follow directions.

anyway good luck, have fun, make sure to have friends over and lots of toppings like whipped cream, fruit and chocolate and always powdered sugar.

Well at that point you might as well just skip this whole thing. Funnel cake is great, but it's really just big flat churros with powder sugar.

I eat funnel cake exactly once a year, at a local fair. This thread is making me crave funnel cake so bad ;__;

Pic related--it's the most recent funnel cake I ate, back in late April.

You sound fat and kind of stupid. I bet you wear a lot of cargo short and flame shirts. There sure are a lot of yokels and rubes on here lately. I bet you're the easiest mark in the world when you're walking down the midway. Keep getting those funnel cakes at the fair, and keep dropping money on games you won't win.
