What do you spend your money on?

I am not sure about food, but i know i drink at least 24 bottles of wine a month, and they´ve started averaging 9 to 10€ a bottle.

I eat simple stuff, make my own pasta, "main" meat dishes between one and three times a week, lot´s of vegetables.

But even then i spend at least 80€ or so on food alone every week.

I don´t buy in bulk, but then I wouldn´t want to store the fresh stuff I buy and eat for a long time anyways, plus I like the variety.

Do you live differently? Do you manage to spend less, and if so, is it because you buy quantity>quality?

I have noticed that even simple stuff like paprika has a huge quality margin.

I really am, honestly curious.

Alcoholism?

I spend probably $200 a week for 2 people at grocery stores, granted that includes things like toilet paper and other household items. I make pretty much all our meals, and while I am very cheap (relatively) I try to eat as well as possible which is why I don't mind buying items that are a little more expensive like cheese.

That's some back asswards logic there, buddy. Eating is a necessity, of course you do that every day. Drinking alcohol is not.

I don´t "eat" just to sustain myself. If I did, I would hardly be on a cooking board after all.

My point was that eating and drinking are the same kind of pleasure to me.

I tend to spend frugally on meats and buy them in bulk, and spend more on fresh vegetables and other such ingredients.

I spent today on a single card enough to buy myself a quality steak and good beer. Instead, I had porridge for dinner.

That's almost one bottle per day. People say that one glass a day is acceptable and even healthy, but a bottle... You seem to have a problem.

Seriously, I cook almost everyday as well. It's no excuse.

Of course we all like to eat dishes we find enjoyable and delicious. I agree, we wouldn't visit this board if we only ate what was necessary to survive.

Food isn't a drug though. Yeah, I suppose you can use the same argument for things you drink, but alcohol is a whole different beast than food. But hey, to each his own. Just saying you can save a whole lot of money if you cut down.

oh man, I used to be addicted to this shit when i was a teen, got a set of bazaar of baghdads, a mox emerald and shit. But never enough to play T1 competetively.

>>5306779
I don´t really care that my alcohol consumption is higher than healthy. Most people kill themselves with too much sugar, bad fats, smoking, overworking, being too stressed about relationships etc.

I don´t need to excuse my habits, I merely observed that it´s getting quite expensive.

Magic has really evolved evolved since then. You should give the game a look, the competitive scene is thriving.

If you still have them they're worth hundreds.

For it´s simplicity, HS has a lot of complexety. Especially considering that it´s still in beta on one expansion.

Just imagine MTG in alpha.

Although that´s not an entirely fair comparisonm i realize.

My wine budget is about the same as yours, OP. Your food budget seems to be higher than mine, though. Food for me and my wife runs about $50/week, and that's most meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) at home, since both of us mostly work from home. This gives us the time to cook everything from scratch. (It probably helps that we eat mostly vegan, because beans are sure as hell cheaper than meat).

>> No.5306813

>>5306807
I was about to ask how the fuck 50 bucks would work. But sure, dried stuff is easy to buy in bulk.

Without going into the whole vegan appeal debate, I wouldn´t want to abbandon animal products, let alone meat itself entirely, that said, I don´t pay particular attention to the times I DO eat vegetarian or vegan.

Me neither. I have it when I go out. But at home I don't bother with it. My pressure cooker sees lots of use with dry beans, which are cheap and plenty nutritious.

I spend about $100 on groceries a week (one person), not including eating out which comes to another $100-200 depending on the week.

I've cut back some on the drinking but last year I was doing about 8 wine bottles a month, averaging about $20 a bottle. I'm down to about 3 bottles a month now.

24 bottles of wine a month seems a little excessive. Regardless of quantity, if the idea of a week without drinking causes you anxiety, that's a sign you may have a problem.

I sometimes do 3 to 5 days without any alcohol. It just feels more boring. In the same way that going without good food would make me miss something in my day.

I don´t really label myself as an alcoholic, since none of the symptoms of alcoholism apply to me, apart from the amounts i am drinking.

When i feel down or in a bad mood i generally drink less, if any alcohol.

I don't spend much on groceries. Raw milk is my big ticket item at $9/gal.

I mostly eat out, because I'm a food writer/restaurant critic in my city. I mostly pay for it, unless its quite expensive because goddamn.

standard wine bottle has ~5 glasses/servings. Heavy drinking is more than 2 per day, or 14 per week. OP is doing about 4 per day, or about 28 per week. That's not being normal, that's called an alcoholic. Especially if he says life is boring without alcohol/doesn't like not drinking.
