hi /ck/, this saturday is my fiancé's and my anniversary. I really want to cook something really nice for her, even though I am not a mastermind when it comes to preparing dinner. Things I can cook well are Spaghetti Carbonara, some stews some local pan dishes and a few casseroles; easy shit, you know.
I need a romantic dinner that I can prepare with my mediocre skill. Give me something nice /ck/

go simple. pick out a decent looking ribeye (thick). brush it with clarified butter, sprinkle with salt and pepper all over, let it come to room temp.
turn your oven to 500F on bake and put an ovenproof skillet (iron skillet is perfect) in there while for fifteen minutes. Turn your stove on to high and get the large burner hot if you are using an electric stove. otherwise just turn the gas on to high. When the oven reaches 500F carefully take out the skillet and put it on the burner on the stove and sear both sides of the steak for 30 seconds each. Put it in the oven and cook it on each side for 2.30 minutes for medium rare. Take it out, let it rest a minute while you make the salad, you can cook the potatoes right before you make the steak and cover them up to keep the warm while the oven heats up from 350 to 500F to make the steak (s). when the steaks are done and resting put the potatoes back in the oven and turn it off, they will be hot when you are ready for them.

coq au vin sounds like an appropriate dish. It's not that hard to make either.

Ok, well it's a bit of work if you're doing it yourself, but she will really appreciate it!
