spent a lot of money on a home gym, lifted 3 times/week on icf 5x5 for a year, and went from ~140 skeleton to 170. then single poorly performed rep during a shrug (traps failed on 8th rep, but I didn't let go of the bar like an idiot. so weight fell the entire range of movement and tugged on my wrists) fucked my wrists and forearms. physical therapy 3 times/week for the last several months and I can hang in the chin up position without much discomfort, but can't perform even one without terrible pain. it's a sharp pain in the wrists, then a stinging pain that shoots upwards along the top of the forearms

according to my sports doctor and physical therapists, it's a tendon and connective tissue injury. also there were no abnormalities in the mri. a time consuming and pretty depressing lesson learned the hard way about just dropping the weights if you need to

you were under the wrong impression. the general notion among fatties is that burning off 200 calories jogging 10 minutes a day is enough to compensate overeating by 5000 calories.
"but I've started swimming recently and I think I'm making progress" sounds exactly like something a clueless fatass would say. Eating healthy/portioning is not a given, it's 100% of weight loss process. In fact, disregard "healthy" and portioning. You eat 200g of butter per day and still lose weight, if it was the only thing you ate that day and your maintenance calorie expenditure is above the amount of calories in that butter.
Anyway, good on ya, fattie. If you really stick to it, you will be halfway there in half a year.

Guy who's lost about 40 pounds here. This thread should prove something: your BMI isn't very informative, especially in the middle ranges.

160 lb, 10% body fat and 160 lb, 18% body fat are both likely physiques, and they're extremely different from each other.

With the current computer-lounging population, BMI actually has a tendency to overstate lean muscle mass, meaning that people are fatter than their BMI would suggest.

>much easier time turning dietary fat into body fat than carbs or protein

Not enough to make an appreciable difference. It's like shaving your legs to make yourself run faster by reducing air resistance. Does it technically help? Yes. Does it matter appreciably? No.

The only factors which appreciably matter for weight loss are calories in (how much food you eat) and calories out (exercise). And it's much easier to change that balance via food than it is via exercise. It takes a great deal of physical activity to offset overeating.

Look up Mark Haub online. He's a professor of human nutrition at Kansas State University, famous for the "twinkie diet". He lost 27 lbs over 10 weeks by eating nothing but junk food--he just lowered his total calories. Even thought he ate the worst food imaginable (candy, snack cakes, etc) he lost weight. That's certainly not the best diet in the world, but it proves pretty clearly that when it comes to losing weight calorie count is 100% known effective, period.

>> No.5063212

>>5063187
>Not enough to make an appreciable difference.

If you have 100 extra calories in glucose floating in your bloodstream, it takes 23 calories of energy to convert the glucose into fat and then store it.

It takes like 1-2 calories to convert fat into body fat.

eating fat while trying to diet is excruciating. You basically have to starve yourself, because the body loves fat, is so good at storing dietary fat, and doesn't burn much fat until energy levels are low.

I prefer to replace fat calories with carbs. I don't feel hungry, got plenty of energy, and I don't over eat.

I've been really swinging up and down with my weight for a couple of years. When I was a kid I was skinny as fuck, but then I got introduced to gaming, which proved to be a lonely and fattening experience.

I used to drink around 4 liters of Pepsi Max (diet coke) each day, but I stopped doing that like 4 years ago. At my top I weighed in at around 108 kgs, 183 cms tall. I started eating more healthier and working out 3 times a day. I soon managed to get from 108 kgs to probably around 90 kgs.

But when I got conscripted into the army it got real serious. Long marches and nearly daily exercise got alot of fat out of the way, at my best I probably was aroun 78 kgs. After my year in the military ended I continued to eat somewhat healthy and continue my workout. When I started studying I stopped working out and enjoyed more and more to drink with fellow students. Mixed with the drinking I started to drink more coke and garbage food. I'm probably around 100 kgs now and started to workout again and cut down on my drinking.

5'10 185 lbs, BMI of 26.5. So yes, medically overweight, but I'm an athlete and weightlift at the same time so I just look big and don't have much fat. Doctor never gives me shit and actually commends me on doing such a good job keeping my body in shape (he's not fat, but he is chubby and could stand to lose a few). Currently on a cut to 170 though, so theres that.

You can't lose weight simply by modifying your diet, you have to do some exercise. Wait 2 hours after eating to sleep, and then walk for 1 hour wearing a weighted vest every morning on an empty stomach. Cook everything you eat yourself, and only eat between 2pm and 8pm every day. Drink at least 3 liters of water daily. If you do not stray from this, you should see results within a couple months, and if you don't, increase the time you exercise every morning.

wrong, eating less is enough.
calorie intake < calories used -> weightloss

Wrong. I went from 95 to 65kg doing bugger all exercise, just modifying my diet. Sure, exercise is going to vastly improve your weight loss, but to say it's impossible without it is false.

It always astounds me about people who think being healthy means you can't eat delicious, fatty food. Of course you can. You just can't eat a huge plate of it. Why do you think French women are so thin, but they eat nothing but butter, cream, cheese, pastries and meat? They just eat it in smaller portions.

>> No.5071417

>>5071406

Agreed. American portion sizes and our ideas of normal portion sizes are insanely too big. there isn't a food on earth that will make you get fat from eating it, but you can get fat from eating too MUCH of anything, even so called health foods.

>> No.5071419

>>5071384

Not quite true. It will improve your FAT loss, but your WEIGHT itself should not reduce faster than ~2 lbs/week (anything faster is unhealthy/unsustainable).

>> No.5071426

>>5071406

hell, you can eat a huge plate of it, even, you just need to exercise proportionally. eating like a roman emperor is kind of the best thing about an athletic or labor-intensive lifestyle. you can have biscuits and gravy for breakfast DAILY.

>you can't lose weight simply by modifying your diet
You can actually. I lost 20 pounds in a month by eating 800 calories a day. Stupid, I know, because I learned nothing about healthy eating during that time and gained it all back.
So like I said, I'm on /ck/ trying to find healthy meals, but I'm also doing cardio. Just did 30 minutes on an elliptical, which was a pretty vigorous workout for a sedentary fat as fatass like myself. (Second time I've exercised in the past 6 months.)

I've never been that kind of person, unfortunately. It was incredible working with my sister in a kitchen (She's a chef of 10+ years) because she ate what I would consider about 3-4 big, full size meals worth of restauraunt grade food each day, but stayed as thin as a twig because she spent 14-15 hours a day bustling about being busy. it was all constantly being burned off.

The best thing about eating in smaller amounts is when you do get the chance to eat a humongous, delicious meal, you really do enjoy every bite.

I've been craving a thick, fillet steak swimming in garlic butter for days. It haunts me in dreams with its char-grilled beauty.

Bump it up to at least twice a week, level 13 for 12 minutes. I hit the elliptical for my cardio because road running gives me shin splints and there's no track close by. I'll still run my PRT twice a year when it's mandated though.

aww yiss, I love that feeling of eating a don't give a fuck full meal, my vice is overcheesed tex mex and chili con queso. I've been dieting almost a whole year and pretty much eat whatever I like, but very small amounts of it. I find eating small amounts of foods you love is easier in the long run that trying to get full on crap you don't like and completely denying yourself the things you love.

Anyway, I don't eat much. Until I go back to town to visit my parents and we go out to eat tex mex, then all inhibitions are unleashed and I devour whole plates of tamales, tacos, quesadillas, and everything else for a day or two.

Really the less you eat the more you appreciate food.

Right now, yeah.
I either eat too much or not at all. I eat for comfort and it's a hard cycle to break. Even when I restricted my intake and became see-my-ribs-skinny every few days I would have a giant bowl of cereal at night and my god it felt like such a present.
I don't know how to get help for this I've already been to an eating disorder clinic.
